Which tyres for 540i E39

Guys, the wear indicators are almost in-line with my tread, Michelin Primacy 225/55/16:bawling:

I'm looking at replacing them with tyres which have the same characteristics as well as no vibration and very smooth driving, but not at that price! I have been quoted R8500 to replace with same, no can do - not even close!:nono:

Any suggestions on what to look at and where to buy?

just dont put dunlop sp7000d, lots of friend have had problems, google this tyre and see the comments, side walls crack, u have a beautiful beast, dont compromise on comfort and safety. I had a 540 with ats wheel 17s, put toyo t1R 245/45/17 allround, very quiet and smooth and they grip very well, do your homework and dont be hasty, tyres do make a difference!!

Heard about a place, Leslie tyre and exhaust. Tel Iqbal 083 292 4972 or 017 683 0294. They are located in Leandra. Apparently they are a tyre distributor and have very good prices. I have no affiliation, have not even been there. Give them a call and report back on price, as I also like to know. I would try and go for the Michelin, they last longer and work well, have seen them for as low as R1350 each at times, R1850 should be the normal rate, so shop around. If you don't come right, try Minty's and ask about Toyo's, they are very good and cheap(ish).

If you can find a place that fits Kumho Solus or Kumho Ecsta, that is a very well priced tire for what you get, good grip, quiet, comfortable, and long lasting. For the price you wont go wrong. Dont get dunlop SP 7000D, unsafe tyre that from what I have read, I did have a set, and they lasted me a decent distance, but grip wasnt too good.

How much are you willing to part with per tyre?

I cant tell you where to buy as im not from your area.

lol, at least the michelins are cheaper than the pirreli's I had. 2500 a tyre, also 225/55/R16.
try yokahoma's or the khumo's aren't bad, they grip allot, they just wear down quicker than some of the brands I've tried.

Sadly the Michelin Primacy tyres I want cost R8500 for the set.

Found a tyre guy in Southfield CPT by the name of Siraaj.

Did not have a full set of michelins, but set me up with 2 x Brigdestone Potenza (70%) for the front and 2 x Michelin Eco Sport(80%) for the rear. Total R1200 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also great if you need a tyre or 2 (or 4 in my case) in a hurry and budget is tighter than a mouse's ear!

Please do not put yokohama Advan Sport, what a cr@p tyre they are noisy and give the car a hard ride feel.

I am using Hankook V12's on the M5 at the moment, what a great tyre. The V12's have also gotten great reviews. Excellent wet and dry grip and quiet, great cornering all and all an excellent tyre, and I am a major Bridgestone fan.

I have Advan sport on mine and they are both quiet and stick like glue but yes, they do give a slightly harsh ride. They are still nice tyres, they are not crap.

I had Continental premium contact 2 tyres fitted to my 540 last week and according to some reviews I checked they are very decent tyres all round (grip,performance etc etc).

225x55xR16 @ R1600 per tyre (could probably have gotten them for less else where).

ah ok, u can get the dunlop sport 9000's for 1700 a tyre +-.. they are very nice, some really nice grip !

Here in East London you get four 205/60x15 for e36 for R280or 320 each with 40-60% tread , so off to Tiger wheel and tyre and velocity for R 620 or so , one a month is ok . Notice how you drive like a gentleman after fitting new tyres .

Also check on price and size on the Toyo CT01. It is a more comfort oriented tyre (compared to the T1R) and gives a very smooth ride.

CT01 is around R1350 - treadwear rating 400
T1Rs is around R1550 - treadwear rating 270

treadwear rating is a linear measure of tyre life, the higher the better.
