So I have been looking at a project car for myself, hence me selling my Canon 7D and lens. So pls, if you know of anybody wanting a semi pro camera, show them mine!

So far I have looked at a 1980 525 e12 and now, also been offered a 1987 525e e28. I only just found out the 525e is a 2.7L low rev engine, apparently more efficient and better low down torque. PFFFF!. Both cars in a similar condition, both need minimal body work, some interior work on both and lastly, the e12 has the crazy oil consumption issue. Paperwork needs to be sorted on both cars. Car wont be a drifter or anything like that, but rather a ...... whatever. As for spares, which am I more likely to get?

Anybody in the CT area that are owners of one of these beauts?

I just thought of something now, If I'm struggling to get the e12 manual, how wont I struggle to get the e12 parts!

I have never seen either of those types of cars in our scrapyards here in Durban in a very very very very long time . I don't even see them on our roads anymore .

You should buy the E28 , The lines are timeless , These old cars have so much character and personality , from the way they drive , the sounds of their engines , the interior smells , the noises they make , new cars are so dull in comparison, It might be difficult, to easily find parts for it but it would be a fun experience . You could also buy them new from BMW and im sure mechanical parts are not hard to find through BMW or other parts stores.

With My E30 , All my parts are purchased through BMW , It takes a while to come in but its worth the wait . And its new!

Im restoring / recommissioning the W124 E320 and its been a little easier finding pieces for it then the E30 but when I do find them they are in terrible condition so I just order them from Mercedes Benz , Prices on some parts arnt so bad but some are horrendous! Those sun visor clips cost over R1450 a pair , only because they are for Illuminated sun visor clips , otherwise they would cost R1000 a pair , two plastic clips .

You can also find that some parts are interchangeable between models which makes it easier, like I found the 500sec 2 door shares some pieces with the W124 :)

Its a really fun experience and you do learn a lot ! But it can be costly so be prepared for that. And if its a project car you can take your time and repair or buy pieces when ever you have the extra cash for it.

Send us pictures!

Btw what is the condition of both cars? The e12 compared to the e28 etc

Are they more or less the same condition? Do they both run and drive?

Body wise yes. The e12 has a bit more work where the interior is concerned, license expired about a year ago and the mystery pint of oil for every 10-15km travelled.

E28 on the other hand, motor is sound, gearbox too. Interior also needs a bit of work, car scrapped so no worries there. I dont mind if the car stands for months or a year while I'm doing it.

The e28 design has sought of grown on me.:chef:
