Which one to get! :D

Hey guys!

I am looking into getting my first BMW. After visiting the BMW museum and factory in Munich this past holiday season, I cant see another way. Everytime I pass a BMW I turn to look and kick myself for not owning one. Enough is enough!

The price range I am looking at is R60 000. I currently drive a blue Opel Astra TS. Im planning on trading or selling and then buy a BMW.

What im really asking for is some advice. I have been looking at the 318ti, as there are a few in the 60k price range and then some E36 models, since the E36 is my favorite shape.

What would you guys recommend in terms of reliability, low cost of ownership and reasonable fuel consumption? Sounds like most car owners wet dreams I know. I am currently a working student and support myself, so money is tight.

Another question: What is the best fuel economy between a 316i and 318i E36? I have heard rumours that the 318i is lighter on fuel?

If you can, try and get a e36 318is, they are really great 4pot BMW's.
Just dont expect it to be anywhere as quick as the TS :fencelook:
But you will enjoy the RWD
BMW FTW

Just get a e36 328i. Better performance and same consumption. Few to be had at R60 000.00 in good nick.

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

Ideal would be the 328i. I didnt mention it due their price range :)

However, I am prepared to bargain that someone will be willing to trade a 318i on a well kept TS. At the very least, I see that there are many for sale in my price range...

I know it will not be nearly as fast, but that is part of the reason im selling. When I first bought the TS I told myself I could tame it, but it is getting the better of me. I struggle to not put my foot down every time I get in the car.

What should I ask Kobus? :D

Replied to PM. ;)

I wish I was a smaller opel enthusiast. Then I would have been driving a BMW already! :D

Don't stress too much about the consumption differences between the E36 models. Rather spend more time finding a clean, well maintained car. The saving in fuel between a 318i, 316i or even 328i will be null and void if you have to spend thousands on fixing a neglected car.

Go 328i.....it is the king. Not saying the 318i is a bad car, but the 328i is just so much better, and about as reliable as a wood burning stove if kept cool and well oiled.
