yes closer to 4.2/100km mixed driving. the lowest I have managed to get was 3.2/100km on the N14 highway from Randburg to Pretoria.

The e90 has a ZF box which is quite strong. For 180k you can definitely get a car on MP which will cover EVERYTHING. You can start saving for an aftermarket warranty. But personally I'd just stick the money in a savings account.

that is re-assuring that it will be able to handle alot of km's for my type of work. On the e90 320d's the most common problems I read about is the either the gearbox or the turbo popping

It depends how you drive the car. I have friends that redline their car from cold starts and don't let the car cool down.
If you look after the turbo it will look after you. There is a forum members E90 320d with 250 000kms on the original turbo. Don't drive the car hard on cold starts I try not rev over 2000rpm. This will help the gearbox as well. And do the same for the last 5mins of your drive it is better than letting the car idle as you still have air flowing over the inter cooler.

Always wanted a 320d / 330d but as stuff went sold my Audi and went out to look at bmw's and the 320d popped up.
Im now 23 July ill be 24...
But im very happy with the 320d, my GF's mom has the 320 and hmmmmm i wouldnt buy one. Its just not for me - power wise and consumption wise.
Most of the parts one can buy from Goldwagen. Ive replaced front discs and pads, discs was +-1400 (Meyle) pads from bmw was expensive (1400) didnt ask for discount :,( but Goldwagen pads are around R800 This is now all for the front...
Serviced my car at BMW cost me 3800, oil and all the filters.
Im very happy with her, she is sitting on 148k km now. Bought her on 146k km in Feb.

I drive a 2011, 320i daily between Jhb and Pta and I my fuel consumption is around 6.4l/100kms but this is only achieve with some really conservative driving. Driving in town with traffic, the fuel consumption would be closer to 10l/100kms.
Overrall though it is definitely going to be expensive if you are a rep and doing heavy mileage. Just the cost of the run flat tyres alone make it more costly to maintain.
I used to travel around 3-5k km's a month, for that kind of mileage its hard for a 3 series to compete with the likes of a Polo or Corrola in terms of maintenance costs.

Yeah....look.....driving a luxury sedan (BMW/Merc/Audi, etc) will always be more expensive than driving cheaper makes of cars. No matter from which angle you look at it.
You pay for:
1. Sheer driving pleasure, which includes comfort, power, looks etc.
2. Reliability
If you spend a lot of time driving, I think investing in a good BMW is a good idea even if it costs a bit more.
