wheel alignment - steering angle sensor - wheel sensors

sometime ago I did alignment and after that , car popped on 3 lights re DSC , handbrake and tyre pressure monitor.

back to alignment shop and 2 re-alignment sessions later lights went off and systems operated as normally.

now on about 25/04/2014 did alignment again , car was at 192000 kays , lo and behold 3 magic lights again pop on , did re-alignment thrice now to no luck.

searched on internet and found many causes of this , jacked up the lorry and removed the sensor on the hubs , gave them a nice clean , also found some metal shards on the left front sensor , all back in and beep once again its on.

does anyone who has a diagnostic computer in CT mind giving me a read out so that I can confirm if it is either steering angle sensor or something else , steering is tracking very true and straight.

car is aligned on a AutoQuip John Bean / Hunter machine with e46 Low Ride Sports setting since it is slammed down.

any help forthcoming with a diagnostic please PM me , I do not want to pay R900 for Forsdicks Tygervalley to tell me this and 808 was burgled so no kit to run diagnostics as yet.

steering angle sensor is appox R3500 at Forsdicks Tygervalley and seems to be a huge job to replace.

had this problem on my e46 before, if the alignment has changed significantly the straight ahead position in software has to be reset..

easy to do with inpa..

I encountered the same problems: the same 3 lights showed up (all yellow, not red) after the wheel alignment in august last year.. cleared the lights with INPA but they showed up again only 3 - 4 days later...
last week I changed tyres and also did wheel alignment in supa quick, and found all 3 lights just disappeared after around 20km driving.. I'm very confused but now no boring lights anymore..

when the car is on the alignment machine to get the physical alignment set, the sensor has to be reset to correspond with the physical alignment..

i usually do mine right there on the machine when they are done, before the car gets moved out of the straight ahead position.. else you have a situation where the car is driving straight, but the sensor is telling the dsc that the steering is turned a few degrees.. which will confuse the dsc when the speed, yaw and steering readings dont make sense.. and voila, lights on the dash..

its as simple as that.

you have to log into the DSC ecu using INPA , then simply reset using the software ..
there really is no excuse in my mind for any bmw owner (except the very latest models) for not having a INPA interface these days.. they go for like R150-00 on ebay..

Hi Neterol.

I've sent you a PM.

In the event that this does not work , I think I will have the car aligned then with non-low rider spec on AutoQuip's machines and perhaps that will make a difference unless I can get a reading for mahala.

For all I know the steering angle sensor is shot anyways but I must say this only started happening when I switched from Continental Sport Contact 2 to Bridgestone Potenza S002

im my humble opinion, there really is no reason not to have a INPA interface nowadays if you are a owner of an older bmw..

they cost next to nothing compared to what they can do for you, and it is simply the best diagnostic interface there is, seeing as how its the bmw factory's very own engineering diagnostics interface that they use/used in the assembly plant.. there is nothing it cant access, and error codes are displayed in bmw's own desciptions.. its NOT a third party developed interface with translated/re-interpeted error codes, nor does it just return generic OBD2 codes as all cars are required to do by law.. this is what bmw workers used on the assembly line to diagnose faults on cars on the assembly lines.

for example , this will do fine, available on ebay.. all you need extra is a laptop and a little software knowhow to get inpa installed.. R200-00 free shipping

http://www.ebay.com/itm/INPA-Ediaba...0920286659&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

or you can buy local, more expensive since obviously the guy has added a markup, but easier and less wait i guess.. or search junkmail, or bidorbuy, plenty around.. R500-00 plus shipping

http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-accessor...ace-+-software-r499/1001084466280910003317009

look here for a diy on how to reset it..

ok.
got cable.
did software install on com port 8.
prog running , ignition on , I can clear engine faults but get error IFH-0009 when communicating for Steering Angle Sensor and everything under Chassis and Body.
any tips now , cleared my glowplug errors though.

found some info on the internet about pin 7 and 8 , and confirming correct pins are connected , must still open the cable up to check this.

any other tips to resolve because everything else *Google* mentions it could be a faulty cable.

ok.

after quite a bit of back and forth , warning lights cleared themselves on Friday 16/05/2014 after I left work.
all working fine now , no cables or software resets.

till it happens again.
