What to do with X5 3.0d (2003)?

Hi All,

Hoping i can get some good advice here.

I have a 2003, BMW X5 3.0d with about 143,000 kms.

Long story, but vehicle had being giving a "Check Coolant Level" indication for some time. Thought i had it sorted out during my service in December 2013, but indication came back just before returning from Durbs in January. Vehicle overheated on the way back to Joburg (before PMB).

Left car im PMB and mech there advised that oil cooling unit seized. Unit was changed and gasket replaced, head skimmed and cost me quite a bit. After repair, when friend was driving vehicle back for me, car started smoking and was then advised that turbo packed up. Turbo was replaced with second hand one.

After getting vehicle back to Joburg (on truck) I realized that vehicle did not have the same power as before and fuel consumption was much higher. Almost felt as if vehicle was not engaging gears correctly. Couple of weeks ago, car gave "Trans Fail Safe" indication.

Now mech advises that gearbox is shot and manifold needs replacing.

I have spent about R30k on the gasket/head and turbo and now will probably need to spend a similar amount to sort out gearbox?

Question? Is it worth repairing car?

Is there a market to sell vehicle as is/in current condition and what price could i get?

If i repair and keep, is it a matter of time before something else goes wrong, considering the history?

Your advise would be most welcomed.:flyfun:
