OPs budget is 80-100k. Get a Honda, will be very reliable and light on petrol
He said he can spend R5k a month. This is better than any older 3 series Imo.

You are correct, I had missed that. But GFV and residuals are generally not the best option for someone wanting to save money. I also think his insurance will be higher because of his previous accident. But always a good idea to explore the options.

Hmmm, very tempting. Such a low, low payment. There must be a catch. You have to come up with a 10% deposit, which is a big chunk of change. And you still owe R200K after three years of payments. There is a guaranteed buy back, so you will be limited to the kilometres you can put on it - probably 60 000. The other problem is the insurance, which will probably be a grand a month but I am guessing. There goes the R5K budget. Not so sure about this, then.

I did the best thing I could, and bought a well looked after 2007 VW Polo.

She will be my road companion for the next few years while I sort everything out.

Congratulations bud. May you have many safe miles of smiles.

In the end, this sensible choice will pay off. Sometimes we need to think with our heads, instead of our hearts.

I have a E46 330i... it isn't the fastest, especially on a drag strip... however it has enough power to have some fun on the roads...but honestly, if you really want a reliable cheap car... don't go for a bmw... consider if something has to break or maintenance .. it will be more expensive ... and remember that low mileage considered on a e46 and below is over 100 000kms

Sorry I didn't read the post... you won't go wrong with that polo:clapper:

The thing with the E46 is that they are pretty old now. Good ones are not easy to find. If you really want one, rather wait for a good one than grab the first one you can get. Even a good one might need some (ahem) unscheduled maintenance. So keep some money in the bank for that. R100K should be enough for all of the above, but the banks will not do an HP for this. Not sure if an E46 is doable, then...

If you want a low(ish) mileage RWD manual for R100K, a 1-series or an E90 3-series it will have to be. Unless you are willing to look at other brands. In that case, how about this?

800

RWD? Check. Six cylinders? Check. Manual? Check. Low mileage? 137 500, check. Low price? 99 950, check. Not too old? 2007, check. Finance? On sale by by dealer, check. Luxury? Lots of kit, check. Powerful? 153 kW, 252 Nm, check. Fast? Sort of, 0-100 in 8.1 sec. Reliable? It is a Toyota, check. Exciting to drive? Not sure, to be honest. Take it for a spin, find out and let us know.

That is actually not a bad deal. A lot of car for the money.

Let me know you don't take it though as it is a bargain for that type of money

I agree with this being a bargain, but insursance probably won't be cheap and your fuel bill will be through the roof. That is one thirsty 4-cylinder.

To be honest, was not interested in an MPS before since i smoked onew ith my 320d when it only had software and nothing else at all.

However, upon reading about it a little and finding this one 2009 model with such low kms got me a bit intrigued. I'll appreciate any more info you have on this Ferdi, will really help.

I know they werent very liked due to having not being able to put down the 191kws that they claim to have and torque limiting on the first 2 gears to limit slip however few mods and they improve a bit, right?

My girlfriend's father had a 2009 Mazda cx7 auto with the same 2.3T motor in it which was just a horrible car from day one. He didnt have to do any costly repairs or anything, but over the 3.5 years(92000km) that he had the vehicle, the average fuel consumption was 15.3l/100 which is absolutely crazy. The car ran well (or so we thought) until I beat him quite comfortably with my stock e46 320d (110kw vs 178kw (de-tuned slightly from the Mazda 3)was supposed to end way different)while probably using a third of the fuel that he was using. Granted this car is a bit heavier than the Mazda 3,but i highly doubt that the Mazda 3 would return 10l/100 or better. I distinctly remember him running out of fuel once with the cx7 with only 360odd km(whilst towing) on the tank, the thing was proper thirsty and completely put me off of those motors. The only thing in it's favour was probably the fact it sounded quite nice and probably also that it made for a great second hand buy for who ever bought it next.
