What should I buy

I have been having a bit of dilemma on what car to buy. At the moment I have my eye on two cars and would appreciate some opinions. Both cars are in Cape Town so I have not seen or driven either of them. The car will primarily be for weekend use and may potentially see a track occasionally.

1. E46 330i 2003 6 spd manual, individual pretty much full house except nav. 125k kms full service history. From pictures appears to be in excellent condition. Total cost with flights and having the car transported to jhb +- R 125 000, owner does not want to negotiate lower. Negatives it's black not my favorite colour , quite a bit to spend on old car and age could mean more maintenance required. Positives always wanted an e46 , no debt and probably cheaper on parts and insurance.

2. E90 330i 2010 auto. White, msport ,sunroof xenons and pdc. 66k kms. Also seems to be in excellent condition. R 238000 , could potentially bring the dealer down. Positives White! , seems well priced and low mileage. Negatives will mean some debt and higher insurance costs

Other cars I'm considering are x35's but the higher maintenance costs are a big negative. Also intend on keeping the car for some time. They have also been some nice e46 M3's and z4' m cars around but I think it may be silly to jump straight to a M car.

So what do you guys think ? :rollsmile:

I'm in a vaguely similar quandry - I love the noise that 3.0l straight six makes but a 3 is too big for me. I'm checking Z4m, Z4 3.0si and contemplating a 135i coupe.

I drove a 130i 5 door, was a lovely drive but the steering was very dead and it didn't have the "pull" factor that a car needs to make me really desire it (let alone consider dropping 200k+ on it).

Are 4 doors a requirement for you? Because you're describing 2 saloons, an offroader and then some sports models? A bit confusing :)

you can get a 2007, or early model e90 330i for slightly above the asking price of the e46 330i.
Both of the above vehicles are on the high side of pricing, if not overpriced.
Given the current economic situation, I'd opt for a vehicle that will not incur monthly debt.
Saying that, I'd purchase a 335 to a 330i.:rollsmile:

Not a requirement but would prefer 4 doors. Sorry by x35i I meant 135i, 335i etc:=):

A little scared of the maintenance on those and I'll be coming from a 1.4 runx so think an 330i would be a better step up before playing with the big boys !

The maintenance on M cars are not for the impecunious. How much? If you have to ask, you can't afford it, me thinks....
