What is the best mechanical insurance?

Hi guys,

I'm considering buying a mechanical warranty insurance package.

Would you recommend one, if so, any specific company?

I contacted Motorite and got a quotation of R5 000 for 1 year and R5 800
for 2 years, qualifying for "level 4" cover with the following benefits ->

Any opinions?

IMHO they all rip off's..... currently I'm with SA Warranties and it all depends which person helps you.

To add to the above, not 1 BMW stealership deals with these mechanical insurance companies because it takes days to pay and so forth.....

Best mechanical warranty is money in the bank. (which is what I do)

im also with SA warranties, and the best advice i can give is rather save that money in a separate account and fix your vehicle from that account.

i doubt you'll spend the R5000 i a year.

also kee in mind those warranties doesn't cover wear and tear items, so for those you will still have to pay.

I looked into it with the Bosch Plan...

Too many negatives comments though - didnt land up taking anything!

I'd rather put the cash away for a rainy day in the event something goes wrong :thumbs:

My only concern was, from the quotes I've seen for engine rebuilds on (specifically the E36), you're looking at anything from R25 000 - R45 000. Thats the price of the car.

Then again, I'm hoping if one looks after your car and keeps the engine stock it shouldn't be necessary for a complete rebuild if something does go wrong?

make a savings account for the car it will be way better than a policy that will try not pay out when you need it...

Yep, these things only cover failure which is also at their discretion. So if your clutch wears out or your steering feels heavier i.e. steering pump has completely stopped working then they won't cover you.

Save the money. My car came with this plan and after reading through it it's just a load of rubbish. Wasted money imo.

+1000 Also be carefull as most cover PART of the Cost ( it think avg is 70%) and they will look for any reason not to pay.

Eg. A nother rep had 1.9tdi golf. Turbo went. R35000.00 bill, Insurance coverd 70% he still had to pay like 9k. shopping around turbo could have been done for about 10k. So he paid 1k more but now work in the Monthlies.

S.A Warranties are useless to say the least and will try anything to get out of a claim. When I had issues with my E46 320d they pointed out that a new radiator was put in and that would surely be the cause of the problem, I asked the twat if he noticed the car only had 70000km on it and that could explain why the radiator still looked so good. Threatened them with legal action and the bumped up their payout by another R2000.

I will in future rather save money in a seperate account for repairs than take out one of these policies.
