Hello everyone. I need advice. Let me be clear upfront... cars arent my speciality. I know a little about it.
Im looking to buy a bmw 120d 2007. The body is in decent shape. The alignment is in. There are a few nicks and scratches but no major problem as the body isnt damaged or dented at all, and I know a decent spray painter. The engine has 250k on the clock. From my understanding is that these engines (N47 I think) are built quite strong (given one looks after it adequately).
Now. There was mention that the release bearing needs to be replaced (the current owner is doing that) and the shocks are being replaced.
The interior of the car is actually in very good nick, just the roofing cloth is hanging and will be replaced.
The timing chain (I think thats what its called) has been checked. All electronics works as expected. The tyres are will most likely need replacing in a year or so. But the rims has no dents/scratches. Im not too sure of the state of the brakes.
The only thing I need to do once the bearing and shocks are replaced it take it for a drive. Ive seen that the typical fuel usage is 18km/L on the open road. If you can tell me how much it is in bumper to bumper, it would be appreciated.
Now... I know its very difficult to give a price given the minimal information I have, but lets assume everything works on the car as expected and it drives as expected, what would you say would be a fair price range to pay?
Ive seen similar on autotrader and cars.co.za go for R110 000 upwards. Also Im in the cape town area.
Oh the real reason I was thinking of buying this car is because my current opel corsa which I have for 20 years is costing me R5k per month in fuel. I get around 10km/L if Im lucky

Thanks
