what intercooler brand has been proven to be very good? for n54

I am looking around for a good n54 intercooler, just wondering what brands are considerd to be the best? the car is going to be fbo + inlets.
what are your thoughts on copying a good desighn like the ER one? i know some guys that build any type of intercooler at a WAY more affordable price.

i have been through different style coolers on an N54, you cant substitute frontal area for a poor quality core and that's all that a knock of will be, poor quality core....:smashScreen:

i personally use an ER and the logs are amazing...

Post up the pics you had of your before Cooler and then the ER and let everyone see what they are paying for!

I have heard the ER one is so good. do you get different grades of core?
why cant they make one with the same design and material here?
it should be possible?

The ER is only one grade of core, but the quality of the core and its ability to process and dissipate the thermal load is what makes the difference.

unfortunately the ER isnt cheap and most people stop in their tracks when they try and justify the cost vs spending that money on another mod. However i would prefer to drive around with my IATS at 2-3 degrees above ambient rather than 25-30 degrees.

a cheap knock of core will not give you that sort of heat dissipation as well.you will still be better than the stock cooler but nowhere near where it could be.

PS. speak to Firi@rennzport to get you a quote on what he has in stock...

Yae i have seen some logs that er cooler keeps temps at almost ambient temps even with a WOT PULL.
Anyone selling there Er intercooler?? :)
thanks but will it not be cheaper to order it myself than use Rennzport.

I had a Wagner IC on my 335i and was super happy! Also not the cheapest but as gents have said you get what you pay for.:coolShake:

So what did the wagner IC end up costing you?
how much wheel kw can a intercooler gain if you are already fbo with inlets?

I dont think its about the amount of wkw it will give but rather assist you in getting the most out of what you have in high heat conditions.

The way i see it...pointless spending 80k on FBO for lets say 400wkw but when its hot outside and you driving the car is only giving you 350wkw due to the heat.

Dont know if that makes sense lol

Excellent questions and brilliant answers

During 2016 July and Dec , Rennzport had various members with the same mods and different coolers numerous logs to compare IATs and how they held up after 6-7 back to back pulls.

As Kish pointed out, ER faired the best, with a wagner Race Evo2 coming. The 4 locally manufactured ones didn't do bad and we're definitely better then stock, but you get what you pay for. All 4 guys had the same issue of the pipes popping off the intercooler every now and again.

If you do want the better end stuff, please feel free to email us on [email protected]

We can give you an official from there and assist you with anything else required.

Thats true but i do most of my fast driving at night on the highway when normaly the air has good intake temps so i was just wondering as some sights clain a power gain.
But i get what you saying about repeated WOT pulls.

Thanks man yes this forum is very helpfull and i love seeing other people with a passion for the n54 motor and what it can do. Thats very interesting to know.
Do you have some pics on those logs of the LATs by anychance? I have heard about the intercooler pipes popping off and it can be very anoying i believe. So why don't they pop off on those fancy brands? Better clamps?

Its about the configuration of the intercooler endtanks & the up-pipe that connects to the chargepipe and the clamps.
