What do you know about your car?

Hi all - first post here. Hoping to get some advice.

I've just purchased my 5th BMW and my first secondhand from a BMW dealership. Car was sold as a 2015 model backed up by registration papers and motorplan start date. All good so far.

Then I tried to activate ConnectedDrive and was told that the car was a 2013 model which preceded ConnectedDrive being installed as standard (2014?). An online check via bvzine confirmed production date as 08/2013.

I've contacted BMW to confirm the accuracy of the above information and am waiting for their response. My question to the forum is whether anyone has experienced such a wide gap (20 months) between manufacture and registration from an authorised BMW dealer? If so, is there a satisfactory explanation for this? My challenge comes from price paid (I did comparative pricing based on a 2015 model), standard options which are "missing" (e.g. ConnectedDrive) and resale value (i.e. when I sell the car, is it a 2015 model).

Any responses appreciated.

Sounds like car is a 2013 model and sold in 2015 only (probably on special by then) and registered in 2015. Never be fooled by the registration date being the same as the actual model date.

I am not sure how it works here in SA, but overseas what happens is dealers buy the vehicle from the manufacturer, and then sell them off. If the vehicle does not sell within the year of purchasing, then you could end up with the above scenario where it will be registered for the 1st time possibly a year or 2 after the build date. In this case you could end up with the papers showing it as a newer model car than the build date.

I'm sure there is a way of checking the actual build date of the car via the VIN.
