Weird idle

Hi guys. When my car is idling the revs pick up by themselves, like it will rev slowly up to 1.5 to 2.5k revs, sit there for a few seconds, drop to about 1k and then pick up again. Does this continuously, until I let the clutch out to the clutch point, this is when it comes back to 'take-off' idle. Possibilities?

I think I could have messed it up, coz I saw that the procedure to clean it was spraying the cleaner into it, wasn't sure if there was a specific cleaning agent so I sprayed CO2 electrical component cleaner into it. True, it must be that coz I noticed that it's been doing that ever since. Is replacing it the only option? Or did I bugger it up properly?

Ps I did drive the car afterward, is it possible that if it was still moist that dust/dirt stuck onto it, and should be cleaned again?

I for one do not understand the desire to clean the sensor.

Try and spray some cleaner on to it and let it dry.
Try not to touch it benzine might work BUT do not take my word for it as I am guessing that it will be the only thing to get rid of oil residue.

Hopefully you will not be tempted in the future to "clean" the sensor.

The sensor only receives filtered air so cleaning it is not a pre requisite contrary to what you read on the net.

I know of a place in Boksburg that repairs/refurbishes MAF's. Came across this place when i was looking for options for my dad's merc when he had issues with his MAF.

Dont remember the name of the place exactly (its was about 2 years ago) but have got the details somewhere which i can look up if you need to look at other options.
