Quick Q from a non-Jozi resident, is it normally like this or has it kind of gotten bigger/much worse over the last few year?

Sent from my LT30p using Tapatalk

These big storms are more normal than not as far as I remember. It's just that we haven't had storms like this for a few years (so yes - worse than the last few years). I remember in my younger years we got lots of hail every summer. And big stones too! I remember once there was a hailstone in our garden (PTA) the size of a baseball. JHB is just about always worse than PTA.

I now count 4 small thunder cells

1)Just south of Koster
2)directly overhead Westonaria.....1/2 hour to Krugersdorp
3)Directly over Vereeniging......1/2 hour Meyerton
4)directly overhead Koppies

All are moving North-East

the one over Koppies is the biggest with the greatest radar returns !!

no-where as bad as yesterday

My car is sleeping outside tonight

Pleeeeease stay away, hail. Pleeeeeease

apart from being covered in dew drops due to a "mist" being forecast in the early hours of the morning....I think you are safe

I am just amazed at the people at WeatherSA, that are now officially by parliament decree allowed to issue severe weather warnings....

and boy did they do so today, every radio station had this as there lead story this afternoon, warning of doom-and-gloom tonight, even SABC news was running the severe weather warning for tonight....

and

Its as calm as an earthworm on sleeping tablets outside..........PATHETIC

on the radar images not even a hint of thunderstorm activity, except way up north (pietersburg - Ellisras - Selibe Pikwe)

HOWEVER

forecast for rain intensity for tomorrow looks like we might be in for some trouble here in Gauteng

Storming in Edenvale now.

I was on the road, looking south it was pitch black and looked menacing.

So out with the Samsung Tablett, looked at the radar images, but the weather contours were "mild" and thus only moderate to heavy rain was indicated....no hail !

had a 20 minutes downpour in Kempton, now its all calm

NO DRAMA
