Want to buy a project car.

I always drove a BMW.
Made the stupid mistake of buying an Audi and now I wanna go back to bmw.

I need a different car for work, something like a bakkie as I go in places with terrible roads.

My plan is to get the company to buy me a bakkie and I will then sell my audio which is financed and would like to buy a BMW as a project car. As in it will be my own car and not company car (even though I will have the company car 24/7 available)

I am looking to spend about R55k and I don't mind having to do some work on the car. Looking for something sporty and with some grunt

Though of a Z3 but they seem to be a bit expensive.

Thoughts on a 2 door E36 M3? Or 328?

Also os there a convertible E36? And on a E46?

What about the E30s?

Any advice is appreciated

Hi there's a super clean E36 328i in the for sale section.IMO you won't go wrong with a decent e36 325/8i...the sound alone is pure joy!:joy:

I'm not sure if its just me but people are going cray-cray with the e30 prices.:fencelook:

Question is what do you want from the car? Track day bruiser, weekday drag strip, a weekend cruiser?

PM me...I have both an E36 convertible and a E30 325i im considering selling

Have you thought about an E34? They are really reasonably priced cars and it seems that parts are easily available.

If one Googles e34 BMW, it is just amazing to look at the possibilities. Personally, I think this car is much more refined than an E30 to drive in the long run. And it is the last of the BMWs to carry the classic double headlight BMW face.

The shape is timeless classic! Just my thoughts on the E34. For 55k you could buy and one and have enough to spend on it!

^ OP said something sporty with grunt, E34 is neither tipping scales over 1700kg...

True!

Didn't know they were so heavy! Unbelievable fuel consumption for such a big machine.

Not too be the guy that says e34 this and e34 that, but:

Weight distribution (approximately):

Not bad for a fat saloon designed in the late 80's with a V8 lump in the front.

The e34 is one of those cars that carries it weight really well...and it is surprising how its size and weight just melts away once you show it a couple of corners.....but honestly when it comes to e34's the 540i or the M5 are the ones you want.

I am not saying get an e34.....I prefer that they stay unpopular

This is the total weight of my e34 M5 with approximately 38L fuel in the tank according to the OBC without any passengers.

And the front end only

Unfortunately my phone corrupted the picture of the rear weight, but it should obviously be 826kg

So this means that the weight distribution is 50.9/49.1 front rear and with a full tank it should actually be slightly biased towards the rear.

Now if only somebody had 2 E34's for the price of one for sale,

Specially if it had an M50 with a manual gearbox, and brand new aircon system...
