Video: M3 (G80) vs RS5 at the Highveld

In the UK review videos, where roads were wet, the M3 struggled a bit for grip and the RS5 pulled ahead quicker. But, in the right conditions, that M3/4 is a monster

Maybe if they compared the new RS5 (whenever that comes out) to the G80 M3 it might be a closer race as essentially, this result was inevitable.

The RS5 is (or was) priced a good R350K lower than the M3/4 currently is from memory. The M3 is cheaper but closer in price to the RS6 at R2M which is a 441kw AWD monster...

Then again options and revised pricing is likely to mean that this will change. I see the Audi site has pricing revisions pending for many models.

But RS5 should be compared to G80 M3 in terms of technical specs..my 2 cents
You're probably right, or more like M4 vs RS5, coupe vs coupe, from a class perspective then..

Point is, to compare apples to apples, both needs to be the latest models. I feel the RS5 was more like a banana in this fight.

Oh so were are ignoring price again... but when we compare the M3/4 to a non-base 911 the Porsche is in a different price class?

Go through whatever mental gymnastics suit - whether on price or performance these are no longer good value by any stretch of the imagination

My thoughts exactly - an M4comp is around R500k over the RS5 base vs base? Wild to compare. But again, literally anyone who buys a new (ugly M4/M3) over a 992 911 really is a special individual. I like BMW plenty and even if the M car was R200 or R300k less. I'd struggle to justify.

lol personally i never look at price when it comes to these type of tests, im the apple vs apply type which i think is fair to a point, coz every car maker's prices are ridiculous from vw straight to porche :)

Your view on pricing is a good one for sure. Only reason I didn't comment on price is I suspect a new model RS5 will be priced to suit it's direct rivals.

:ROFLMAO: eish this ugly M topic is all over, personally even if its ugly (debatable)..M is M its a special division in BMW which is after all on its own if you know what i mean..i do agree on the price theory though its madness!!!

Yeah we can compare the price of an M3 or RS5 to a Porsche, in terms of "buck per performance" and the Porsche wins hands down, but in terms of "buck for practicality" there is nothing better than a family saloon that rivals purpose built sport cars. I'm sure that is how many people justify the spend. Why buy two vehicles, a sports car and family car, when you can buy one with a little bit of best of both worlds.

what i would really like to see from BMW is what porche does with some of their 911's do like a special edition of an old model with all the new technology..G80 Type engine technology in like an e39 m5 type chassis
