Vibration on acceleration

Help please!

I am Cape Town based and have a 320D e46 (2003). I have a short left rear vibration on acceleration which appears just about 3 sec after initial acceleration lasts for 2-3 sec then disappears:hammerhead:. This does not happen if I accelerate from say 50-60km/h or from 100-120km/h but only on initial acceleration.

From what I have read this appears to be the "guibo" that needs to be replaced. Does anyone know where I can take my car to in the Cape Town (Southern Suburbs) where I won't get ripped off? (no tools for DIY)

That does sound like the guilbo, buy them from BMW, think I paid last time R1000 for it (but that was like 2.5 years ago).

Hope someone can help you with a place to do this. Atleast we have propshaft in soutter street here in pretoria who can do this for like R1000.

If it was my car i would first replace the gearbox mountings. Cheap and easy to replace. Had a vibration problem on a friend's E46 328i auto and it was the gearbox mountings. Would vibrate from just after pull away till about 30 or 40kms/hour and then would be smooth. After replacing the gearbox mountings which were not torn or damaged as such but quite soft, the vibration was gone. I am not saying it could be the guibo but the g/b mountings are cheap.

Got similar symptoms around 6 moths ago mate. When acceleration preset between 70 and 100 miles. My mechanic take rear wheals out and show that one of them been slightly banged on interior edge. He balans them and problem dissappear.

This sounds nothing like the OP's problem.

Okay...sorry for the slow replies gents. In short...problem solved. Took Solo Man's advice first as the mountings were quite old and needed replacing (cost R200 labour incl). Had that done. Immediately after pulling off the ramp the guibo got worse.

Had a new guibo fitted for R1250 (incl labour) and I'm back on the road again! :ty:
