VANOS woes

I have a set of single vanos seals ( one teflon seal and one nitrile o-ring ) and have a slight hunt on idle with a flat spot when pulling off or at say 2000 revs .I pull the gearbox out and change the clutch all alone , but the vanos seals looks a long job as per Beisan's article (long , but good ) on the net .I must pull tappet cover off , take measurements and make a set of blocks at work...maybe then:thumbs:
Maybe take out the airbox to make space then you can take a tin of carb cleaner and spray pipes leading to the inlet manifold - the spray will be sucked into any leaking pipe or crack and the engine note will change .
If I remember correctly you may get an error of vanos mechanically stuck or so on the diagnostics if the seals are worn .Good luck .

It seems my problem is fixed. Replaced the PVC/Pressure Regulator Valve (it was clogged and the membrane moved) and the VANOS breather pipe (was brittle and sucking air from outside). Intake manifold gaskets were replaced as they were stiff/solid and hence the engine was also sucking some air there. The vacuum is back and the butterfly valve is now closing at low revs. Yay! Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I've learnt something during this exercise. :)
