hey guys i replaced my vanos seals about 8months back, dont know if yous remember had a rough idle the seals did fix the issue but it seems that its slowly coming back its not fully there yet but would like to fix the problem as soon as possible it idles like a camd v8 for about a second or two when i start up and seems to be like a miss and jerk in the low revs then after a while it comes normal, my question is does the vanos seals normally go soo quick? i havent driven the car hard for a few months now just normal driving and i average about 150km a week max, just dont see why i have to replace it so often?

Pretty sure its more then just vanos seals then. Is it not maybe a bad coilpack? Have your read codes? Maybe the whole vanos system itself is tired.

i recently serviced the car about 1500km ago with OEM plugs, im thinking also maybe coilpack but when i did my service the plug change really made a massive difference was really smooth, but i did take out the old plugs 1 of those plugs lookd very bad almost like acid was eating it, but funny thing is the car doesnt pick up any codes on the vanos, so im not to sure if maybe its a bad coilpack that could be eating the 1 spark?

Could be idle pentiometer.

funny enough it does seems to be a idling problem as it revs up smoothly, the revs sometimes when come to a stop, this has been on the back of my mind for long now as the car idles on about 700rpm which i thought to be very low i could be wrong? but tell me where is this idle pentiometer situated? do you perhapz have a pic of it or could tell me where it is so i can have it looked at, and is if the revs are not suppose to be on 700rpm what should it be on and how do i bump it up if i need to?

Shot for the reply guys!

In front of the throttles. It looks like a small switch.

so if you facing the car from the front is by the vanos side or by the ramtube side?

what do all your guys ///M idle at rpm?

Sorry, I don't trust Vanos units that have been locally redone with just a seal replacement... Remember my old man having his done on his Dakar yellow 4-door a few years ago - by RGM nogal, at ridiculous expense, and it promptly failed a few months later..

If it turns out to be vanos related, Get replacement Vanos units altogether IMHO.

i had the same problem, found a leak in my icv pipe. check all your vacuum pipes/intake piping, etc for leaks.

also its easy to check your potentiometer aka throttle position sensor (tps). pull the rubber back on the connector and attach a volmeter/multimeter set to low voltage. then with the key in the on postion open and close the throttle, the volts should go from 0.4v or so to 5v

Has anyone actually used Dr Vanos, & if so how is the Vanos currently & how have you had it for?

Ive got one, must better then the stock tired Vanos, torque starts from lower down, had it about 3 years now. You get used to the new feeling quicky, but back to back its a marked improvement. I replaced mine because I felt my Vanos was noiser then it should be, extra power was an added bonus.

im also intrested in the dr vanos no doubt that i will be looking to redo the vanos even if its not completely messdup but has anyone done a double vanos redone by them, also my vanos doesnt make a noise or anything, so it seems all ///M do idle 600-700rpm, will check for any leaks, car hasnt done it all morning i cleaned the MAF last night so it seems bit better but not getting my hopes up just yet
