Lately i've noticed a puff of smoke when starting up in the morning.
The problem of 'oil usage' has happended for a few months now too.

I'm guessing i need to replace the Valve Stem Seals on my 2007 320i/150 000kms

Any recommendations on a reliable mech and approximate cost?

Hi
Seems like it's a normal problem on the N43 N46 motors if you have one of those.
If not, sorry for the wasted post.

well ill do a little diy of mine to display the symptoms before and after, but after sorting mine out I'll be able to take on those jobs, collecting the cam timing special tools today or tomorrow, my set of stem seals should be here within the week, along with the special valve keeper tool & pliers etc

Almost ready....... :coolShake:

Hi All,

Been a while since I posted here. So often, the replies are incredibly helpful, so thank you.

I have the same problem on my 2006 320i (E90), mileage is 177,000.

It's currently in for valve stem seal replacement. I'm just curious about how long this job should take to complete? For both approaches to the job - removing head and not removing the head.

Thank you.

When my car went in for the seals , I dropped it off late in the day , they worked on it the next day , I told them dont rush it , They called to say it was ready , I then picked it up the next day. So probably takes a day or two .

Its not a big job for them with the tool that they have .

I also had them do an oil change at the same time .

Hwzit guys i replaced my vavle stem seals without removing the cylinder head.

I supplied the special tool to PROCAR in durban. They technicians did a good job changing all 16 seals. Cost me R4000 Labour only as i provided the seals & special tool. No more smoke. Car is 2006 320i N46 Engine.

My tool is worth R10.000 works on all bmws without removing the cylinder head
