V8M E92 Battery question

So just to give you guys some feedback, I took my car in to have the battery checked at BMW. After all the diagnostics and keeping the car to have it charged over night, they figured that the battery needed to be changed.

The total cost was R5139. Just the cost of the battery alone without all the diagnostics etc was R4258.

So a month after changing the battery at atlas battery using Atlas own brand, my car shut down on me this morning and battery light came on. After getting it started and moving few minutes later some smoke came out from the bonnet. Could it be alternator?

Was it the same size battery and amps as the one that you previously had in the car?

Yeah it is the same size and amps. Will take it in for a battery and alternator test.

Yep, I think it is best to take it back to them and get them to check it out.
I hope the battery did not damage your alternator now.:thumbdo:

Did they code the new battery to your car? I've read of stories like this where the battery wasn't coded and it gave issues.

i had a new battery installed by SMG Durban a week ago as well as registered battery to car, below is summary of costs

80Ah battery R1500
labour and coding +- R300

They did not code the battery, I plan on booking it in tomorrow at BMW and advise them to code it as well as check if any other faults.

The battery is registered so that it is charged at the correct amps etc.
