V10 M5

Seems the M5 V10 is destined to be a future classic.
Once off motorplan the V10's could become quite expensive. My mate's V10 engine blew in Whiteriver and cost BMW 460k for a new crate motor from Germany. Not to mention stories of gearbox's and diff's imploding.

So the question is, are they a viable option, or a simple & fast means to bankruptcy?

One can pick up engines from 60k of certain online auction places in Europe with milage rangeing from 25000 to 100000km
Add shipping, import duties and VAT and you should half the price that your friend paid

In other words.... I trust this will be a nice classic to have :praise:

They are becoming 'cheap' to... Saw a beautiful specimen for R389k the other day with 110k on the clock.

LOl...i would love an m5 or m6...
they are going for good prices, but i'll have to wait a long while before i can buy one..

only thing that worries me is yes you are buying it for say 350k but the maintenance on these types of cars are still going to be that of a 600k + car without the motor plan

My M5 is a 2007 model. I extended the MP another year to 2013 and will probably extend it to 2014.

Paying 460k for an engine is ridiculous. There are plenty of other ways to get an engine for about 70k all in.

How did the engine blow ? From my research the weakest part on the M5's is the software and not the actual gearbox's/diffs etc (JC on Top Gear did embelish a little)
