Hi Guys,

This is the 2nd time i have replaced my windscreen.

The first time i did so my auto lights and windscreen wipers never worked. The lights stay on even in the sun and the windscreen wipers go on even if it inst raining. After taking it back about 4 times i just lost hope and just used it manually.

So my window cracked last week and i had a new one fitted at PG glass this morning. I just picked it up and see its doing the same thing. I mean 6 grand for a new window and it still not working.

So what can the problem be? Im taking it back tomorrow but could there be something else that is wrong? maybe a reset or something?

Could be that they fitted the wrong windscreen.. my dad had that on his jeep.. so they came to do the correct one & broke the wrong one when taking it out.. then it still did not work, they had stuffed the sensor thats by the rear view mirro.. so had to re fit it.. and broke it again... so eventually got it right.. luckily it was their fault so they paid for the 3 broken windscreens

Andrew i found the problem

Just opened it up myself and found that the connector that plugs into the sensor is broken and the wires is mixed up!!!

There are 4 wires and there is numbers on the connector 1 - 4.....Can anyone tell me what color goes on which number?

Just been to bmw and they dont have the connector and cant pick it up on there system. So i have to fix this one myself...

Guys please any help !!!!

few things about that sensor..

here's a quick pic of that plug..

plug.jpg

as for the rest, its extremely unlikely that the sensor will work as intended if they did not fit a windscreen with the lens already glued in place, if they stick it on after taking it off the old one, they scratch it, stick it on with double-sided tape ect. it should have NO bubbles, marks ect between it and the glass. if it does, you will have to take it off, polish it, and the stick it back on using a thin layer of NON ACIDIC!! clear silicon (else it will eat the plastic)

then it might also need to be re-initialized.. can be done with INPA..

@ netercol Thanks dude that helps alot.

They fitted a proper windscreen so there was no need for any glue or so on. It came on the window.

Its just the plug that you showed me is broken. I have managed to find a BMW that has stock of it so will pick it up this afternoon.

What is worrying me is that the picture you have there and the colour of my cords that goes in the plug has different colours. Does this mean someone has messed around there before or can different models have different colours??

Thanks alot tho that pic does help alot

np, glad to help :thumb:

funny that the colour coding is differant, mine is a 2004, should be same colours.. but prolly just changed by bmw between year models.. maybe try and find the wiring for your exact model here..

http://spaghetticoder.org/bmw/wds/e46/

INPA is the BMW factory tool that we often discuss here on the forum that you can use to read codes, and in this case also use to re-initialize the rain sensor (reset)
