Guys, read an article in one of the UK BMW mags about the drain pipe under the brake booster clogging up and water overflowing into the car when washing or when raining. Take out the pollen filters, take out the loose small cover under the bonnet hinge and then loosen the 12mm plastic nuts and slide over the lock in the centre of the plastic cover and take that out as well. Look carefully and you will see a rubber bung that is supposed to let the water out but mine was completely clogged. Some of the water from washing the car a week ago was still sloshing around in there. You can completely remove the rubber bung and throw it away. That is what the article advises so that is what i did as i do not want another clogged drain pipe. Tried to see if the other side also has one but the fuse box is there and i am scared of moving that so if one of you brave guys do check there, please let me know! Thanks! Btw., also cleaned the clogged drain pipe for the air con on a Corsa C and was amazed at the amount of water flowing out when i cleaned the drain. I do not lie, about a cup of water sloshed onto the paving. I modified the drain pipe so it could not clog up again.

The american forums are flooded (teeheehee) with complaints about blocked drainage pipes. Seems to be a common problem on almost every model BMW. Soggy carpets are one thing, but all the electronic systems getting fried is quite another.

read about this some time ago, even posted on here if i remember correctly. I havent had a chance to get to mine yet, but i have noticed that after washing the car there is still is some water that drips when moving it into the garage, so while it might not be clogged, there might be some obstruction.

Check out this video i got from youtube
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzqBGDWbces This shows how to remove the covers from the left and right side of the car. On the drivers side you will see the brake booster and if you shine a light in there you will see the little rubber drain that you should remove completely in order to prevent it from clogging up again. To do the other side you will probably have to remove the sump guard and do it from below. The article stated that the body of the car was formed so that the water would run towards the drivers side of the car when you wash it or if it rained but i will feel safer knowing that the other side's rubber drain is also removed.
