Upgrade from 335i Coupe to M3 Convertible

a convertible will never be able to make use of the of the M3s setup properly so its kind of pointless having razor sharp throttle response, LSD and stiff suspension...

if you love the sound of the V8 over your 335 then there would be some point to getting it otherwise i would just get another 335...

sorry if you have already bought the car then just enjoy it still a great car

Tag, you are not going to find the answers you want here. sorry its just not the right crowd although there are a few M faith fulls left. for the majority of the guys here they are interested in straight line speed and tuning ability.. hence Seethers rather biased response.
so if you happy with your cars in stock form then i would definitely go for the M, hands down!!!! if you wanna tune and see amazing results for minimal input then keep your 335 or get a newer one.

Dude I have owned a few M3's and I will again in the future. The vert is not a "true" M3 though, and my opinion is based on plenty seat time in them.

I have an awesome exhaust for it if you want. MP Approved :=):

PM Me

Thanks... it already has a Remus installed - scary loud - no idea if it affects performance though. Are these things any good?

To respond to on an earlier comment - no, I'm not very keen on mods, my 335 is stock - I considered a chip at some stage, but honestly, it has enough power already and I'd prefer not to mess with motorplan.

The M3 for me is a straight-forward and progressive upgrade within the 3-series product range - the fact that it's a convertible is probably a negative overall, but hey, it's still sweet!

If I was in the market for a car costing a bar or more, I'd definitely take a 911 instead of a new M5 or E92 M3 with competition pack. Just my personal view.

Reese, yoiur comment was pretty braindead - am sorry to say. Nothing makes me happier than seeing some1 with a new car they love and enjoy. You know nothing about me, so making a silly comment about my intent is just looking for a reaction which you are getting :)

If it was an M3 coupe I would be telling him "go for it". Even if it was an E46. I just don't feel the convertible does the M3 justice. Why do people buy M3's? Power, handling, driving dynamics, track use, etc. Most of these are lost on a convertible. This one also has less time left on its MP than the 335i. If you read earlier I also noted that I wldn't get a convertible.

I also agreed that if this is the car he wants and he has test driven both, then by all means get what you are happy with. He asked for advice - I gave mine. Maybe you should read back before posting another braindead comment. Hope that clears things up.

If I may respond to all parties... I'm happy with everyone's responses and comments - I'm not looking for anyone to try and convince me one way or the other, and it will take a lot for anyone to offend me, so thanks to one and all. I sincerely appreciate all the feedback so far.

While I don't dispute your "why most people buy M3s" comment above, I acknowledge that I'm not most people and as such contradict that norm :) even if it makes me a poseur.

In the case of this purchase I'm planning, I'm actually gaining 2 years on the motorplan of the new (used) car, which is one of the reasons for liking the deal.

seether, reread your first 2 comments before getting so touchy.. i dont need to know you and judging by your ego i dont want to.. am i supposed to smell what you thinking?

Reese, if you bothered to read further, you would have seen my other comments then you wouldn't have had to "smell what I was thinking".

If you get personal and direct a stupid comment at me, then don't be surprised when you are treated as such.

Anyway, I am sure the forum don't want to read anymore on our little "bitch" fights, so you are welcome to pvt me if you have an issue.

Tag11 - sorry if I made your decision more difficult, but believe it or not, all was intended to help you make a decision - and just to clarify, I am BMW biased, not x35i biased. Good luck with your decision.

Hey tag congrats on your new car!

I was in a similar situation last year, except it was a e92 or e93.

Like many peeps said above is all in personal taste. For me I don't race or track my car so both would have been nice, and I always wanted a convertible anyways... not like I have any hairs to show off haha, but 1 day I'll def get a drop top:thumbs:

Please post some pix when you get it, is gonna look bad ass man!!!:inlove::inlove::inlove:

Not at all dude... while I don't think the little argument was necessary, I value both people's input on the topic! Yours included.

Pointless asking an opinion if you don't want to hear someone tell you something you don't want to hear.

From a personal perspective, the 335i Coupe I've owned for 3 years is by far the best car I've ever owned (I've had many!), so I'm actually quite biased!

Heya Tag11

Have you driven the M3 convertible yet. Not sure if you mentioned and don't feel like reading back?

I don't think you can go too far wrong with an M3 no matter what shape or form it comes in.

@Reese130 and @Seether - stop hijacking the thread with your nappy fights :roflol:

Tag11, don't stress about your decision. 335i or M3, I know a lot of people who would LOVE to be faced with that decision. There are pros for both and very little in the way of cons, so imo, you can't go wrong with either!

That M3 is really good looking, though personally I am not a vert fan, it does look better with the metal folding roof closed.
