Unknow Object?

Hi all,

Found this in the boot compartment of my Gf's F30 320d, Its probably from factory or dealership as she has owned the car since new and never knew there is a compartment under the boot carpet. I recently took a look under and found the Car hand book sealed in plastic which she always complained she never received and this unit thingy.

It looks like some battery pack however doesn't have any output contact points , On one side it has a micro UsB port, looks like a reset switch and led.

Any ideas what this unit is?

Cannot find anything on Google all types of different searches using the serial and codes available.

Plug in via USB and check what comes up on PC would be my next move.

I have also Googled nothing relevant comes up,

Its a Old type Micro usb much broader than new gen, will have to check at home I may have one, i would think if plugged in it will just start charging... Also tempted to take a screw driver to it and see whats in side :hammerhead:

I checked the serial on Realoem and nothing comes up, so i doubt its BMW related.

Open it up and check,

Dont no if its a battery back otherwise it would have probably said 12.25v and not V12.25, that looks like a version number to me.

It looks like a "boomerang"

I know they sometimes put these tracker devices to monitor it when its not in their possession.

I would also think it is a tracking unit. Probably the dealership forgot to remove it when they sold the car.

Doesn't look like it has a constant power source, Would a tracking unit plug in a USB?It is possible its part of 2 pieces where the parent unit is powered and this child unit plugs in..possibly...it was just thrown in the boot compartment though.

I have seen similar looking devices used by some dealers. They chuck it in the boot or somewhere else in the car when a car is loaned out for a test drive etc. They then charge it on a docking station at their site when need be. I think it can last a few days without charge.

I know when I once bought a car, the dealer had to send his driver out to fetch the unit as they forgot to remove it when I took delivery. That is how I seen the device in my car, looked similar, and was also left in the boot.

To get this back on topic :roflol:

I found a similar thing in the boot of the A4. No clue what it was though. It didn't have a mini USB port like how this one does but it had connectors of some sort.

Definitely a mobile tracking device. Forgotten in the car by the dealership. We were required to carry these when I used to work at a dealership. Company policy.
