Hi guys
does anyone here have info on unichip, I've seen quite a few for sale on gumtree and the likes thereof, just wondering how i would go about remapping one of these units to suit my car (e90 325).

How much is it going for?
You get the Older Unichip and newer UniQ.

It is best to get Dastek Dealer to map and tune. Using a dyno might be best.

I would recommend Ross from RBTS Racing.

He did mine with great results.

AFAIK Unitronic is flash software. The Unichip is a piggyback system which is hardware that is connected into the wiring loom.
WRT price, l paid R3200 for the UniQ supplied fitted mapped and dynoed.

R3000-R3500 this includes supply+fit+tune and some kinda guarantee on the chip, buying it elsewhere or 2nd hand then you still need to have it fitted which is like around R1000 and then tuned which is about another R1000, and you don't get a guarantee on the chip obviously. So comes to almost the same thing as buying brand new, so imo buying new is the better option.

You buy new, you don't get the results you were hopping for and you get stuck trying to sell the chip on gumtree too, just like those guys that are trying to sell theirs :roflol:

I'd say rather go the re-map route with a software flash.

The UniChip / UniQ route requires the wiring harness to be spliced which to me is a no no. Also modern ECUs have more processing power, which respond better to software flashes, as opposed to a single EPROM chip being soldered into the mix.

That all being said, don't expect big gains either.

as guys have mentioned .. Unitronic has no connection at all to unichip etc. ..
Unitronic is for the entire VAG group, flash software .. similar to the likes of revo and apr ..

Got quoted on a unichip Q for my m235i R12 500 at RGM

For one, RGM charges an arm and a leg:RedNo:
Secondly it must be the Uniq with the module to have up to 5 different maps to interchange between.

IIRC, ROSS charges about R6k for that.

IMO, ON a turbo car I would go for software as there are proven gains worth every rand.

WRT to the Unichip, i dont see splicing the harness as a major issue. U also don't gain much with just a Unichip. It's purpose is to bring Mods into harmony and function efficiently together thus gaining the best results from the mods. That is where the gains will be.

If i use my car as an example, a stock 330i pushes between 113-117wkw at the reef, depending on its condition. Mine pushed 121kw on the before run on the dyno, this was after the decat and full exhaust. So there were gains. Then the UniQ was installed, mapped and tuned and the power jumped to 132wkw. This coupled with a short ratio really made a different on the blacktop. So there is merit in saying that the Uniq refines mods and extracts the best gains.

You would probably want an authorised Unichip shop to install it for you, and then map the car on a dyno.

I would give Ross at RBTS Racing a call and ask how much he will charge you for the install and the tune together.

I have the UniQ on my E36 328 which RTBS recently tuned - cost was R1100 - so just need to work a deal for the install on top of that.

Not all cars can do software, as the ecu is not broken or hacked( whatever the correct wording is) but at RGM you get a warranty and everything on your tunes, so no ekstra costs if there are any problems

So RGM will fix their tune if it breaks? Like every other reputable tuner? You just pay double the price because "RGM".

Are you sure RGM didn't quote you on a stage one conversion? Exhaust, filter, uni q.

You cannot simply return a flashed car back to standard without having another flash done. Tuner makes way more money off you in the long run. Uni Q just unplugs and car is back to stock.
