Bad luck!!

If you can sort of see where it is but of course cannot reach it, using a magnet won't really work I think with the metal bodywork etc. Maybe some wire bent to shape to reach the bulb, and then with some prestik on the end for the bulb to stick to and retrieve...

The magnet will stick to the sheet metal and not go down ....

Alternately, if the magnet is strong enough, you could try it from the outside. I.e. glide the magnet over the exterior (with a cloth, of course) and if it catches the bulb too, you can move the bulb to a point where you can reach it ...

i can only think of a coat hangar with tape and jus carefully dig around..if you lightly hammer the boot lid wit your hand won't you hear the rattle?..tho if you sticking anythin in there be careful..maybe wrap insulation tape around the wire so it doesn't scratch anythin....isnt there the carpet covering the inside of the boot lid that can be removed?..and any clips broken jus replaced..

how did your led break tho?...cos I squeezed 39mm ones into my E90's...now thinkin I should go get smaller ones..lol

Jack the car up on one side, or beter still drive it onto a ramp on one side, so that you get a good angle, then shake and rattle the boot lid so that the globe has no option but to go to the lowest point.....now you know where it is located and won't move around to much.

then try one of the numerous tricks and "tips" of prestick/double-sided tape flexible this and that etc etc.....but at least the bugger should now be isolated to one small area only due to gravity.

then do one of the following
1.turn up the radio,loud,that way you wont hear it.
2.get some good neon orange ear plugs,stick them in your ears,wont hear it
3.push cotton wool into the boot lid,with lots of it in there,it will jam the bulb and deaden the sound.
4.try another bulb and watch where it goes,then you will find the other one.
5.get a corsa bakkie to crash into the back of you,that way you can get a new boot lid.
6.dont drive the car,it wont rattle then you wont hear it.

7.if you do any of the above,then you need medication.

Bulb didn't break bru - It popped out cos it wasn't sitting snug in the fitting

I've seen chassis jigs built to turn cars upside down for autoshows?

Surely there should be someone around with something capable of doing that?

Dunno how much I'd appreciate using that on my own car however.

PS: on point 3 from Herr BMW, I was thinking in the same lines, just that some of that spray foam would be easier to use :rollsmile:

Go find a cheap stethoscope, rattle the lid and find the LED??
