Tyres, the good, bad and ugly

Fit new Conti SC3s at the rear about a week or so ago.Great tyres,grippy but yet road noise penalty.These are my 2nd set at the rear,will stick with them till I can upgrade further to Pilots.

It's interesting though the many of the tyre shops I went to tried to convince me that a tyre is a tyre is a tyre...most just tried to sell me what they had in stock and not what I wanted.I mean I go in there looking for performance Contis and you try to sell me 750 buck firestones...and try to convince me there's no difference???!!!!! I'm sure they get away with it though ...

I burst a sidewall on my goodyear RFT on Saturday - I attended the charity run, went to work yesterday and still driving around. Getting it sorted today but if that was anything but a high quality RFT I would have lost a mag, caused more damage and not been able to drive anywhere..

I prefer RFTs just for not having to stop on our dangerous roads and you can still get about while the right tyre is sourced for you. :thumbs:

Anyone got the Conti sport contact 5P. Thinking of putting them at the back of my Z4. Don't want to have two diff types on the car and don't have the bucks to replace all 4 now.

Any comments on the Conti 5P??

Any comments on the Conti 5P??

These are standard equipment on the Renault Rs250 cup.. they are really good tyres.. BUT.. really poor tread wear.. they wear out really really fast..

I would suggest goodyear assymettrical 2.. better tyre.. probably on of best on the market at the moment..

Been thinking of the goodyear but wanted to keep the same manufacturer on the car all round. Will diff tyres front rear not cause bad wet holding?

It is recommended that all 4 axles have same tyres.. more so on AWD cars..

on RWD/FWD.. each axle shoul have the same type of tyre..

If you have different tyres on each axle.. it can cause instability as tyres react differently in different situations.

I would stay at minimum with same tyre on same axle.

Having all conti's makes no difference if its different types of contis - still not good.

So my burst RFT was replaced today (got 2 new ones on the front) Got Continental Sport Contact SP 5 RFT (225/45 R18) and this tyre is way way better than the goodyear efficientgrip which the car came with IMHO!

The steering feels lighter than when I bought the car and it corners like a BMW should! There was a rattle in the dash which BMW could not diagnose for more than a year and I am pretty sure it's gone this evening.

Taking the F30 on another roadtrip to the mountains this weekend so I'll check the rattle issue on the trip! Done about 60Kms on the new tyres and man what a difference! :thumbs:

Conti 5P is a great tyre..

I still think the Goodyear Asymettrical 2 is a better tyre..

The efficient grip is not a high performance tyre..

had on Bridgestone Semi Slicks...really cool...grip like hell when hot....scary in rain...Hate the Dunlops...Had on Hankook V12's liked them a lot...Conti sports were also nice.....Federals were ok....noisy

I had Hankook V12's on the BM for about a year before I sold the car. Even though I really liked the tyre and that they handled well in wet and dry conditions, I started getting some road noise from them after about a years driving. Will I buy Hankook V12's again, for sure. My favourite tyre brand though has to be Bridgestone though.

I currently have Yokohama A-Drives on the GTI (Bought the car with them on) and I must say the tyre seems to be doing very well in both wet and dry.

Anyone else have experience with A-Drives?

The HiQ fitter mentioned the the car beakes to the left because of the right caliper being sticky and slow. Any advice on how to fix this or where to post on the forum for help?
