technical Tyre recommendations? (Currently looking at POTENZA S001 or TURANZA T001)

Hey everyone,
I have my 320d, but after 1 year and 4 months my rear tyres are already below minimums (whoops). Any recommendations? I am in Cape Town, and got a quote for 2x POTENZA S001 or TURANZA T001 for R2750 each.

Not sure if there are better prices, or better tyres for the money. I currently have the Turanza T001 fitted to my car. Will keep them on the front and swap out the back 2x.

Ideally want something good and performant (run flats too). But also dont want tyres that will wear down super quickly.

It would be best to go with the same tyres as the front as possible, so go for the Turanza, pricing does not seem bad.

Howzit bro

I changed from Bridgestone RF RE050 to Goodyear Eagle F1's. Never looked back. Rears gave me over 45 000km. And it performs good in both wet and dry conditions.
Very true, I had GoodYear Assym F1a on my M135i, drove 40000km and didn't have to change them at all, as you said great handling in wet and dry...

Hi

What mileage did you get over that time?
Also, was the wear fairly even or pronounced on part of the tyre?
I had an F30 LCI 320d M sport with Potenzas from new until I sold the car at 30,000km (if I recall). Tyre tread was still fine.

Seeing that you're from Cape Town get a quote from BMW as well. My last two tyre replacements I did through SMG Tygervalley and their prices were lowest from the quotes I got (and they had stock). Maybe try SMG Cape Town?

If you can, stick to the same tyre all around as mentioned, don’t mix brands or models. So if you're keeping the Turanza T001s up front, rather just get the same ones for the rear.

The S001 is more performance-focused, but the T001 offers a better balance of comfort and durability. It’s quieter, rides smoother, and tends to last longer. That said, if you’re thinking about moving to something sportier, skip the S001 and go straight to the Potenza Sport. It’s a newer and more advanced tyre, still within the Bridgestone family, and a solid upgrade in terms of grip and responsiveness.

Howsit fanatics. Reviving this thread. I am considering Kumho Ecsta PS71or Goodyear Efficient Grip. Any experience with these tyres? Mechs are advising I stick to conti

What are you trying to achieve or change?
Hi Llew! Currently running Pirelli Cinturato P7 Run Flats. I don't do a lot of long-distance driving anymore, so I am fine with not having a sporty feel, but I wouldn't mind trying that out, being new to BMWs. So the Khumos apparently are a better fit for that. I ran the three 3 choices (Khumo, GY, Pirelli) through chat for a comparison, and it spat out that the Goodyear EfficientGrip is a very "compelling" tyre and the better choice. Not sure what to make of that.

Will you also be switching to non-runflats?

Between those brands I am not a huge fan of Pirelli or Continental's mass-offerings. Kumho is fine, but if it is similarly priced to Goodyear I would go Goodyear personally. That is admittedly my brand bias coming into play on this. On the higher end both Goodyear and Bridgestone have stepped up their game.

In my garage at present, I have mid-tier Bridgestone (Turanza), higher end Bridgestone (Potenza RE71RS) & Pirelli (P Zero Corsa) as well as the E39 with Eagle F1 Asymmetrics somewhere in between mid and high end I guess. For what it's worth, the Eagle F1s are pretty comfortable.

The only brand I may consider swapping out (when the time comes) is the Pirelli. Make of that what you will LOL. Jury is still out on it (Still far better than the Pirelli's I have been 'subjected to' in the past!)

I am leaning toward staying with RF tyres. I originally wanted to opt out of RF tyres, but I do see the benefit of them. I am rarely able to open up on the roads here where I stay, so a more balanced feel isn't a deal breaker from a performance perspective. I'll probably regret that statement when I go on holiday again.

Sorry for the hijack. Am I the only one that missed the E39 in your garage?
