Hi Guys,

I'm a newbie to the BMW World and I have just got myself a 2011 X3 2.0d Xdrive. I am looking at changing tyres on it. I currently have the 225/60/17 99V Pirelli Centurato P7 RFT on the car. I would like to know if there are any other tyre options for this car? Has anyone tried other brands? Is it there any recommendations for Tyre Dealers in the Durban area?

Hi BMBuckley

Send me the vin and I will try get you a list of the other options listed which are BMW approved.

From previous threads, it seems very important that the tyres have the "star" marking on the sidewall- that means they're BMW approved.

It seems best to fit these. There are cheaper tyres around, but they seem to impact the transfer case negatively.

Didn't someone mention that BMW have very competitive pricing on RFTs?

Thanks for the advice gents. It seems as thought the Tyre shops don't have many options when it comes to this size. I have decided to stick with the OEM tyres as they are the also the cheapest option. I also tried BMW and although the tyres were a competitive price the fitment pushed the price up.

Special thanks to uncle j for going the assistance

Hi,

Speak to the parts manager and ask him to try arrange a better price with the workshop manager. That is what I do. Just a thought.

You could also buy the tyres from BMW and take them to TWT or wherever you want to fit them - would just have to weigh up the price difference.

I've just ordered a set of non-RFT tyres for mine (which is out of MP) and based on feedback on European forums I'm looking forward to improved ride comfort. I had the same set as the OP and am swopping to a Bridgestone Dueller HP Sport set. Will report back as soon as they've arrived!

I have bought tyres from Bluff Tyres and was impressed with the price and the stock they carry. Why not try them? Or Jack's Tyres? I think they are connected some how.

d2coza, what price did you pay? And where did you get them?

I'm in Cape Town so have ordered from SupaQuick Claremont, they're charging me R10k for the set (225/60/17).

They've done a few rotations and fastening of bolts free of charge for me, so I support them by default, meaning I didn't really shop around.
