Tyre Noise

Hi Guys,

I have a 2004 318i Individual. It's got the narrow/wides tyre combination. Tyres fitted now are Fulda's all with 70 - 80% tread on. There seems to be lot of howling when driving on smooth tar and quite a rough sound when braking. The pads and discs were all replaced by the agents in December. Someone mentioned that the wheel bearings could be kaput? Any ideas what could be causing this....

Hi

Got my car back from BMW, took her to Northcliff Auto, service was good as usual. Ends up being that the rear inner pads (both of them) were binding on the disc slightly, cause both a vibration and noise. Ended up spending R10 000, there were few few other issues, they replaces all four discs and pads, front left control arm bush, and then a few other minor things.

Did they only do the one control arm bush ?

That is odd, they should replace both left and right at the same time, else you get uneven wear.

I reaplaced the right side last year in december, a pavement jumped out infront of me, you know how it happens.

Bent the control arm and totally smashed the bush, so they just replaced both, Cost me R7000, was one expensive pavement. LOL

Yeah. I hate those jumping pavements, much better than those walls that fall in front of your car :)

I took mine in last month for the same thing, mine was more from the front left than anywhere else

Turned out to be (as you mentioned) 'tyre noise'

They chacked everything else and tightened all the suspension up again etc etc and that was that :)
