Hi Guys
Is it normal to change tyres at 15 000 km on a year old car ? i hardly use my car as i have others and i took mine in for a check due to humming noise at low speed and the dealer told me that my tyres a wearing unevenly and all 4 wheels need to be replaced including tyres . is this normal ? my first BMW . i suspect an inferior quality in the production of the wheels.

hmmm seems abit quick, maybe check the alignment and see where is wearing out on the tires...

Are they talking rims and tyres? The only reason for this would be if the rims have been damaged by potholes. Normally the inside of the rim bends because there is no support. I would first go to a reputable tyre dealer and have them checked.

The humming noise is due to uneven wear yes.. The stock good year RFTs are horrid tyres. :bangdesk: Uneven wear could be due to incorrect pressure and not rotating the tyres as explained to me.. That said I can't think that the tyres are worn out @15k besides the humming?

uneven wear esspecially on a new car likely culprits
1)wheel alignment....maybe you hit a pothole somewhere a while ago and thought nothing of it, therefore extended uneven wear due to miss-allignement
2)Rim damage due to a pothole
3)Incorrect tyre pressure over extended periods of time allowing for extended periods of uneven wear
4)Tyre manufacture fault, I have personally had an "oval" tyre before and it produces a "drumming"/"humming" noise, and nothing can be done about this

15000km seams very unusually low, so either you drove for extended periods of time with one of the first 3 options, or your tyre was a "dud" right from the word go (manufacturing fault)

Thank you guys , i dont remember hitting a pot hole as suggested but how can bmw say all 4 rims and tyres need to be replaced as the rims are not even and the tyres are also uneven , this is a car i mostly use on weekends ..... loosing faith in the brand .

The Car does not pull side ways when the steering ths cannot be wheel alignment , Only one tyre had low pressure according to them thus i asked what is the point of the TPS , as i initialized it weekly to check for drop in pressure ?

could it be that you are being led "up-the-garden-path" so to say

Just like doctors, would it not be an idea to get a second opinion.

If your'e in the Kempton Park area, why not pop in for a "FREE" check-up, to let my team give you their opinion.

Perhaps they are trying to shift you for a quick buck.
Your rims may be slightly buckled, but not need replacement as the dealer suggest.
Have them checked at an independent wheel specialist.
Most TPS detect major loss of air and not minor losses.
