This statement however bothers me a bit:

PS: This goes for a DVD screen fitted in the back, that is visible to other road users as well. :thumb:

Well, point 1 b states it clearly... :bangdesk:

How would you prevent an "officer" from peeking into your back window, notice your kid/s is watching a video on a tablet and fine you? Also, most video's are located on the headrest, which is clearly visible from outside.

I think the principle of the law is fine, in terms of driver distraction, but I fear this could turn into an alternate revenue generation scheme ...

Not arguing with your thread/post, just highlighting a concern.

Imagine a situation where porn is playing on DVD screens on headrest and visible to all to watch.

I think they have a point with this law.

It does seem to have merit, but not allowing it in the rear of a car is stupid. If another driver is staring into your car that intently, he has some serious issues.

When common sense was alive it would have been acceptable to just drive and not try to watch what is going on inside another car :roflol:

I agree, and on that note, if thats the law in SA then NO vehicle manufacturer in SA should be aloud to sell that option on a vehicle if they want us to comply with that law

Crap law I say.

I use my double din for nav and then for DVDs for little one on long trips.

Another "let's screw you so we can take your money and spend it on our seven wife's" story.

I'm sick of our ridiculous laws and corrupt system.

I bought those strap on ones, due to my cart having "active head restraints" It keeps the little ones busy, so no more nagging and fighting.

Twinz, personally I wont install it, because it allows me to still talk to my kids when driving somewhere, and also forces them to look around, and see stuff, and ask questions, especially on long trips like when we went to Uvongo.

Now that sir is a very good point and also stand by that philosophy

How is concentrating on a tv screen any different from concentrating on the sat nav, especially those ones that have the nav on the right of the screen. In both cases one has to take their eyeoff the road and focus elsewhere. Even if the timeframes are short and quick, it still means you taking your eye of the road.

I am against a DVD in front. For kids.., in the back, only with headphones.

Surely i-Drive is a "visual display unit"? And not sure if it would be an "intelligent driving aid" either.

Re the new drifta (7") they actually sell a bracket to go on the headrests so basically all you need is a drifta and a bracket and pop it on...

I once saw a guy in a citi golf who had what looked like a 17" LCD installed where his rear view mirror used to be and then him and his friend had the seats waaaaaay back and were watching something while driving in traffic. Never saw him again so maybe something happened :p

Aren't BMW's latest entertainment systems located in such a way that it's not as easy as it was to see from outside?

I don't see how the entertainment system for the X5/X6 and E65 7 series (example) being a distraction to anybody as it's located in between the seats.

I think its a ridiculous law as I do not see a problem with having tvs in the rear. Even with sound on it is not a distraction to the driver or are they going to ban speakers in cars too? If a driver in another car is trying to watch the screen in your car that is pure negligence and the driver should be held accountable for he wasn't watching the road. Are they now going to ban advertisements on roads?

With that being said it does not effect me but I can see why people would want them in their cars for children on long drives.

i dont agree with this, as it being said, satnav aswell as all the new vehicle manufacturers putting "screens" in for their entertainment units, then they should ban all the vehicle manufacturers aswell. if someone is looking into your car from the outside and crashes, they must be held responsible for negligance and stupidity.

I found the "crack" for my E38 740i and managed to make the TV available whilst the car is in motion, I tried to put it on a TV station, but soon got irritated by the continuous chanel drift and interference, as well as that it was actually unpleasant to try and watch TV and drive, and have never used again.

I don't really travel any great distances, and have thus not invested in the DVD option, and there are no "little-feet" (kids) so there is no need for it either in the future,

so its more of a gimmick, that is just about never used.

How did you disable it?

I don't know which model you have, but the procedure found under this link http://www.meeknet.co.uk/E38/TV_Unlock.htm got my 2000 E38 740i to be unlocked (works while driving)
