HI

Just want to find out if it is possible to tune/remap a standard ECU. or do you have to have a Unichip/any chip to do any type of tuning?

From what i know off, Xcede does tune/remap your ecu

sorry for the jacking , but i have heard that for example , you can load a 320 map to a 318 ? i highly doubt that this is possible though.

well if the performance is there without the fuel consumption, than i would take that :)
But my car has been to RGM and all they did was a dyno reading and told me that they cant remap a standard ECU. lots of people told me that it is possible, so i wanted to know if there is anyone that has actually done this before.

It is totally possible. RGM punt the unichip range which is ok, but there are certain things it cant do. Remember, tuning an ECU still gives you all the factory failsafes, ie you cant advance the timing out of x range, you cant add more than x ammount of fuelling etc.

Speak to Sherwin, he will sort you out.

what certain things cant it do?

Read the post man!, he said already.

It's the bit that starts with "Remember" and ends with "etc."

Though the reference is to piggyback ecu's where there is still a factory ECU involved and you can only "trick" a factory ecu so far which is correct.

i see what he means but i put in bold THERE IS NO SIGNAL YOUR ECU SENDS OUT THE DASTEK CHIP CANT TUNE / MANIPULATE

there for there is a input and an output in the chip so there will be no error codes to your ECU coz he will get the same voltage and or signal values as if the chip was never there!

meaning there is nothing software can do more than a chip can!
and if motor plan is the worry get the u-connect plug and play lead and you remove the chip trace free before services!
there have been cases people lost MP's where software is detected!

the chip leaves no proof of it ever being there!

lol, are u kidding?? what about i-bus signals to other ecu's , signals to and from abs/traction control ect.. :)

dastek does canbus and heaps more, ofcourse we can alter the traction control via the uniQ chip, the lambo has maps with different levels of traction control controled with the chip, why would you want to alter the ABS signal? but i can gaurentee you with the dastek chip you can if you realy need to!
only i-bus for your ipod is not run via your ECU. LOL

you are missing the point mate.. a modern ecu like a bmw's has got hundred's of inputs/outputs.. you gonna pretend a unichip can intercept each and every one of them?? it still is a piggyback, not a fullblown ecu.

and before this turns into a flamewar, im not dissing unichip, im just pokking fun at your blanket statement :

i see what he means but i put in bold THERE IS NO SIGNAL YOUR ECU SENDS OUT THE DASTEK CHIP CANT TUNE / MANIPULATE

i mean what do you need a ecu for, pop in a unichipp it can do everything! :):):)

bud the unichip in its own form is blank! but you can use it to manipulate any signal or voltage! im not saying it can do everything at once! but you can tap in to any signal wire and go mad! my point is just what ever software can do , unichip can do plus much more!

Without specifics, the etc... and more... from above posts sound the same to me.
