Tracker are incompetent.

Had been billed by tracker for close to a year for a car I Sold. I Provided the neccessary documents to get contract on that car cancelled, was a huge headache. Had to go to the top to get it sorted. Next time I'll contact Clifton, top lad man, great work here.

My experience with Tracker has not been good either, amongst other issues they contacted me a while back telling me about this wonderful upgrade which amongst other things will make my car more visible in underground parkings, which I though was cool, it is called 'Retrieve', so I have this fitted, whereafter my Skytrax 'Carguard' facility was made inactive, after a few irate phone calls at 7pm on a Saturday when my frigging 'Carguard' facility comes back as 'Failed', I suddenly start seeing sms's coming through telling me when and where my car's ignition is being switched on and off, due to hectic schedules I only phone 2 weeks later to query this, get told I asked for the sms's, and I must pay for them, well, after lots of abusive language they decide to rectify this and refund my sms charges, I then have the opportunity to try out this 'added underground visibility' function, guess what, no different than before!!!! So, I am now led to understand this new 'Retrieve' system makes my car easier to find.....WTF was the original Tracker then doing? In essence I am paying for a system which makes Tracker's job easier.....When my contract is done they can remove this crap from my car, I will look for another tracker company.....

Pro's and con's of different unit,
Again a satellite system will loose signal in a basment much like a cellphone, where else a radio frequency system will not,
Not a radio frequency system cannot uplink to a satellite so no car guard on this unit,
The ignition on off service is an added feature which can be switched on or off by yourself, tip - if u have a blackberry or alot of data on a smartphone change to email alerts and activate all the benefits, no extra cost to you.

Again, know what you buy and how it works,

Just educating you guys so please dont take any offence.

I will try not to reply anymore, but yes feel free to contact me.

You know the sad part is that in the interim a company's name gets tarnished by incompetent people in the company. Thats all, wont say anymore.:sorry:

CliftonH has been very helpful and accommodating to those who have been done wrong by tracker, no reason to slander the name further.

But yes as CliftonH said, one or two bad apples can spoil the whole cart. The tracker unit itself is a good product, it's the installers that are the problem...

So after reading some of the stories on Tracker in this thread, I decided to call them up to do a test on my car. I get told today that they haven't received a signal from my car in more than 6 months? So why not tell me?

What the hell am I paying for then? This is ridiculous. They want to charge me R375 to send a guy over to check the unit. Fuck that man. I am paying over R200 a month for a dead unit? Will I get reimbursed for those months it was not working?

Mentioned this to my old man and he's also pretty pissed off about this. He's considering changing his entire work fleet from Tracker to someone else. I'm probably gonna do the same. I cannot believe they'd let a customer drive around not knowing their tracker wasn't working. It's an appalling system if it falls into the customers hands to phone and check. How many times must I check then? Once a week? I mean, come on. Had my car been stolen, insurance would fight me over the fact that my tracker was not working.

Hi guys, thanks for all the compliments but just doing my job,
I hear all the complaints, not to start a debate but I have seen people sign up not knowing what they signing up for,

Example it is a 3 year contract, any contract u want to cancel u will have to pay a settlement if u are still in contract,
Some units are radio frequency based meaning no satellite signal is used, to position a vehicle u have to have a satellite compatible system, the radio frequency units are tracked by the recovery team using a radio frequency tracker,
With regards to testing the system, tracker automatically test all clients units twice a year, if u do not get msg once in 6 months please call in.
These units also are affected if certain mechanical or electrical work is done on the car or if the car is in an accident, the only advise I can give is read the terms and conditions so that u know what u buying,

I am in no way covering up or justifying anything, just speaking in general,

However guys I work for tracker, I am a supervisor in the call centre, so if u have or need any assistance feel free to contact me, I will always assist, I have assisted a few members and will do so for everyone, I can always try to come to a solution that will benefit both the company and client.

Glad vinny is sorted, with reagrds to the other post, my email address is on here send me a mail I will see what I can do, I am at work till the 24th,

Cheers.:ty:

thank U Clifton for the info... Am a new member and I must saythis forum is informative

In all honesty the amount the insurances comes down if I install any tracking systems does not negate actually getting one. I have even been offered one for free and said thanks but no thanks

I pay insurance for a reason. If they want to steal it I cant stop them.

My 2 C.

Well done CliftonH. At least you are trying to help

That's ridiculous. They should be operating like ADT who call you when there is no signal and you get a message that the alarm is operating on the battery.

That really is terrible.

Kurt then you have the expensive Tracker Locate system where you can monitor the vehicles movements. It's used for fleet vehicles and trucks where owners can keep an eye on their drivers. Why did you opt for that instead of the cheaper Tracker retrieve system that's used for private vehicles?

How do you explain a unit not receiving signal for over 6 months? How come they don't notify the owner that the unit is dead? And now want to charge me almost R400 to send a guy out to take a look at the unit? I know this is not your fault CliftonH and I am not taking this out on you... I think you're an honest guy, but...

I pay over R200 a month for my tracker. So, in my books, that's R1200 that tracker owes me back.

Tracker and BMW electronics don't mix. And I pay insurance so if they steal it they can keep it I'll get another instead of all the Hassel linked to something that has a 50/50 chance of working.

Tracker :RedNo:

I got an Idea. Get a cheap Samsung phone with GPS. Then hide the phone in the roof liner an supply it with 5V from your battery. Then use Samsung find my mobile https://findmymobile.samsung.com/mindex.jsp and you will always know where your car is. Just top it up with data each month I think R50 should work.

Good idea, but I see a few problems. That phone in the roof will get cooked by the sun. The phone's battery might not like being (in effect) charged all the time. And the reception with the phone located right next to a big shet of metal could be a problem.

Perhaps the phone would be better off somewhere else in the car with an external antenna (or antennas, one for GSM and another for GPS). And without a battery inside it, but I don't know know if the phone will still work.
