To vert or not to vert, that is the question

Hey Guys
As the topic says, the car in question is the 135i. Now, I have been thinking about this for sometime, I am getting a 135i next year 2013 and a mate asked if I would consider the convertible. Now, I have never owned one, but my dad has had 3 verts the current one being the new 650i (awesome car) and I like the idea of it. The issues that I think about are wear and tear of the cloth, the image (convertibles tend to be more femanine), weight and the convertible fuction losing its attraction over time.

Please give your inputs, pro's con's etc

Some brands in thier vert models do have that famanine appeal BUT thats not the case with BMW, they suit any1!!!

With all of the beggars, window washers and street vendors in S.A. I would NEVER drive a drop top.

I honestly dont know how someone can stop at a robot in S.A and not have a fully auto machine gun on their lap.

aside from that though, a 135i is HOT HOT HOT and I dont think it could ever look girlish.

I know what u saying, when i cruise with the top down in town driving even though it feels awesome, there is always that sense of insecurity. I totally enjoy driving on the Hway with the top down but then there is always an offramp to get off at where these beggars/window washers/street vendor loiter!!!

I never thought about the harrasment from beggers etc. Wow, this makes the coupe seem far more sensible. Any1 here own a vert that can comment on the harassment from beggers and vendors and window washers etc.

I drive an e36 vert...never had any issues with harrasments ffrom vagrants or vendors...if you have that much fear go buy an armoured vehicle

Cruising with the top down is an awesome feeling that's apart from the attention you attract esp when living on the coast....

Now the 135i is a damn fine piece of automobile BUT only in coupe form...the 1 series verts are definitely hairdressers cars...

It has nothing to do with Fear, its called common sense! or you could just continue to live your life with your head in the sand.

You are far more vulnerable to attack if you are driving around with the roof down.....PERIOD!

Just my opinion. Use it, Dont use it, your choice!

I personally love it when I stop at a robot and some bait stops right next to me with their doors unlocked or roof down, windows down while totally unconscious of their surroundings. By all means, make yourself a target, you just make my life easier.

I'd buy a BM Vert if i had the moola, apart from ensuring that the roof is closed whenever/wherever you're parked....Perfect for our weather...you get to enjoy the beautiful days in winter as well...besides your dad should be a shining example of vert ownership?

lets face it you are more vulnerable in a vert to any crime. its just like owning a house without burglar guards vs with burglar guards. you will be an easier target. you also get the weirdos who walk past and jab you in the arm with infected needles. heard of a few cases where this has happened. i drive everywhere with windows up (coupe).

ok lets forget the crime. dont forget your sunblock else you will need to visit the dermatologist very often.

then there is the noise factor and the fact that you cant leave anything lying around in the car that can be taken off with a gust of wind.

then you must realise the car will be heavier and less streamlined so will be heavier on fuel. in a car that is already thirsty.

then it comes down to looks. this is up to personal taste. personally its not to my taste but its a nice car and you cant go wrong with any 135i

OK, I must say you got some valid points but remember not all places that you drive are dangerous. I think you looking at a Vert in the wrong way. Convertibles are not always driven with the top down daily, I know many drop top owners and I have a M3 e46 drop top sitting under my car park which don't belong to me but to a close friend and we use it over the weekends with the top down and never came across the sun burning us, maybe we was going to quick for the rays to catch up. :roflol:
But that said, the BMW 135i vert is a looker above all the other new verts out there. As for stuff left around, well I know many ppl would agree, why would you leave stuff lying around in your car, its for driving and not storage, you have a boot. Just my opinion Josh.

lol. he doesnt have to visit the dermatologist often if he doesnt want to. was merely saying with our climate sunburn is dangerous. so i wouldnt enjoy the top down during the day and i hate slapping on the sunscreen. sun worshippers might but we all know they end up regretting it.

yes you can use your boot for storage but hope you dont forget that important document that is lying in your car one day when you open the roof.

crime to me is the biggest factor for me. may not be for anyone else.

pros for me - night time driving. thinking. still thinking. thats it i think?

All the BMW's I have ever owned were convertibles, 328 cab, Z3 roadster and now Z4M roadster. Personally I like the drop-top look and it's cool to drive a car that's different from everybody else. Makes me feel special.

If I drive in dangerous areas, I simply put the roof up. No hassle.

I don't like the new Z4 all that much though, so maybe I'll have to look at another brand for the next one. I quite like the Aston Martin DBS Volante (a maroon one).:rollsmile:
