THUD!!!

great now my car is benched and im stuck in a fucking 1.6 Polo again...

yesterday this noise started.
it happens when you pull off from a stop just before the car starts to move to me is sounds like its coming from the back but it could also be further forward...

from what i have read it could be:
Ripped or Failed Guibo(flex disk)
rear Sub frame Bushings
Rear Differential Mount

i have been having strange smells from the back of the bonnet where it meets the windscreen i suspect it could be the clutch or the cats being cooked some of you may have read the burn peanut post...

could it by any chance be that the clutch is so thin that it is making this noise? or is it more lightly to be one of the others? how do i start eliminating them?

I doubt its that, if the clutch was too thin, it would just slip.

Do you have a limited slip diff in the car

This could be a bunch of things, from the flex to sub frame, but have you considered that it could be control arm bushings as well, gearbox mounting, damaged shock, ect, the list goes on.

Best is to have somebody take a look with the car on a hoist...

well now is a good time to get that 6speed box and 3.46 diff from gizmo...it definitely seems drive line related rather than suspension because the road surface seems to make no difference to the noise was hoping to order all the parts form gizmo but i guess if i dont know what to order it cant be done...
ill make a trip into town now to see who can get it up for me and have a look need to take it to the drive shaft place so they can give me a quote for shortening anyway its going to be a slow agonising drive

some workshop monkey has put 2 different bolts on the front diff mount and one was coming out now im going to have to try get my money back form the people that worked on my diff because i will never let them near my car again...Ill have to see how they play that one...

well now the car is standing anyway im ordering the 6 speed box and 3.46 diff form gizmo so when its running again it will be better makes it worth the wait
