Thanks for all the comments guys, uber and his dad really are awesome people.
@fordkoppie: I bought a waterpump last year with the intention for changing it, but never really got to doing it. The waterpump change ended up being put on the long term plans (before 100 000km) so I guess now is as good a time as ever.
@leonard: Thats right apart from just the cooling system not working there is also the change of it getting wedged in other moving parts, causing further damage.
Got parts from BMW today so if everything goes according to plan I will be going past Mr uber's place tomorrow evening to do the waterpump the belts and replace the broken bracket.

Righto, so yesterday afternoon after work quickly went home for some food, and then headed out to uber's place.
I don't know about you guys but I don't know of many people that would be willing to help you with your car till after 1AM on weekday, well uber and his dad are such guys, awesome guys. Also Legacy also deserves a special thanks for his help with the work and for giving me a lift.
So the work ended up taking till after 1 'o clock this morning, but in the end,
-the tensioner bracket is now replaced
-fitted a new waterpump (just because)
-replaced the main and aircon belt.
-and the car now has fresh coolant.
Thanks again to everyone that helped, you guys are true fanatics :grin:
Edit: Also took a couple of pics so will try and post up a bit of a DIY soon.

@philip: The OEM waterpump has plastic impeller, so its only matter op time before it gives in, mine still looks pretty much fine, but now I can feel a bit better
@frikkie: Yup, or something similar, basically a reverse threaded tap, that as you drill it in it pulls itself in and the loosens the stuck bold. I am just glad we had someone with so much experience (uber's dad) to do this, as I would probably just have stuffed it up more.

Preventative maintenance, although cheap insurance does sound a bit more relevant!
Yep, expansion tank and waterpump will be done in one shot. Hoses are still fine, but might be worthwhile replacing. And while I am at it maybe just replace the power steering pump which is still a bit too noisy for my liking...
