control arm bushes

These are often bent, apparently they are designed to be a weak point to protect other more expensive parts? :flyfun:
So you might want to have those checked.

diffs normally go for 2-3k sometimes you can find them cheaper if you lucky

What would the approx. labour cost?

Yup, Kish has pretty much covered everything - and thanks for the reminder to take a look at the DISA flap - been meaning to do that.

Last port of call on Kish's mod list would be a suitable remap to compensate for the increased flow from the headers / decat... It's worth a few horses, and would also help with cruising fuel consumption a bit, But don't expect massive HP increases. If you're at altitude, the Vanos should be able to be tweaked a bit further than at the coast.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you - got my 330i on Saturday, and have already fitted an intake... Just gonna take care of a few maintenance points and sort out the steering wheel / seat scuffs before my new modding odyssey begins...

Headers + decat exhaust
Remap
LSD on the stock 2.93 ratio if possible (I like the long gears, hmmmmkay?)
Projector headlights + Xenon retrofit
Dynavin or similar NAV head unit
18/19" wheels

And a few other little odds and ends...

That's all provided I don't just bite the bullet and buy my mate's E46 M3..

3.38 Diff Ratio. Decat exhaust. Unichip. If u running a 5 speed, first change to 6speed.

2.93:1 ratio as standard on a 6-speed 330i to a 3.38:1 ratio is a bit steep if you ask me and then you can say bye-bye to that good fuel consumption on the freeway.

I beg to differ. With the 2.93 I sat at 2400rpm @ 120km/h and with the 3.38 I sit at 2900rpm. Just been to Durban in December. averaged 7.5L/100KM and 8.2L coming up. Not bad at all in my opinion.
I use it daily and must say the extra torque delivery enables you change quicker and stay I higher gears for longer. I'm actually averaging 9.6L in town driving compared to 11L with the 3.38. I say u might get a little lesser on the open road but get more in town driving.

frankly for that extra thrust with the extra torque, it's the best bang for buck mod u can do. worth every cent.

Having been in a 330i with a decat of the mid section, replaced with SS straight pipes and then the golf T mod, it's cheap to do and sounds awesome, won't yield much power but it's cheap for the awesome sound.

Golf T mod , how much does a golf T cost?

Decat & replace with straight pipe, about R250 per pipe.

The cheapest value for money mod has to be the Sprint Booster at around R1800. Decats and filters have got nothing on this baby. My 330 auto from 15.4 to 14.9

A sprint booster makes no extra power... If your car got faster over a quarter mile then you were not pressing the pedal fast enough...

True story!

about 1 hour labour in a shop to change so depends how much they charge per hour :)

Sounded complex, expected it to be a few hours.
Does a shorter diff put any strain on the car?
Are there any signs of damage to look out for when getting a used one?

very hard to tell if its damaged... when you look at one try spinning it by hand and feel if the gears feel gritty...

with the right equipment you can swap a diff out in 30min :)

This is from the sprint booster sales website:

• Sprint Booster does not increase Horsepower.

• Sprint Booster does not reduce your 0-60mph times.

• Sprint Booster DOES make your car 'FEEL' faster.

Idle control Vavle and Throttle Body... Cheap Fix, 1 Bottle of Liqui Moly Throttle Cleaner, about 2-3 Hours... and you should feel a decent power difference...:=):

No I haven't driven with one, I was smart enough not to spend 1800 bucks of my money on a gadget that fools me into thinking my car is faster when it actually isn't, do u actually know how it works? Do a search on the forum, there are plenty topics on it...
