I finally upgraded my shower... When I was getting out of the shower this week Tuesday, I slipped on a pair of dirty underpants and mistakenly fell into this.....

I really need to spend less time one the internet.
This car was listed at the WBC 5min from my house for R52,000 with transmission and shock absorber issues. With 124,000km, how bad could it be? It would have been rude not to go have a look at it. The keys were annoyingly locked in the car.

How many gorillas does it take to scratch a Range Rover? At this point I was ready to walk away.

Range Rover duly scratched, we jump started it and went for a drive. To my surprise, the car drove perfectly with no weird behavior from the gearbox at all. I specifically extended the test drive and tried going forward and backward and doing full lock turns, but experienced nothing weird. I did note that the tiptronic function did not work and the low range would not engage. A selector switch fault, surely...
After a few calls to friends I can trust to give consistently poor advice, the mental gymnastics were done and I bought the car. I literally have nowhere to park the thing! Anyway, take the long way home, making sure to stop in a field to "test the transmission"

Lovely. No weird behavior from the gearbox at all, but the rear shocks are not shocking anymore and it could do with new control arms.
Onto my favorite part of the car and what sold me on it. I love the yacht spec interior and it is immaculate except for some peeling/scratched plastic paints. Spare wheel looks unused and it is complete with the toolkit and tow hook covers.

A familiar engine to accompany the familiar bings and bongs

I was quite pleased with myself, thinking this car is too nice for me, until this morning when the gearbox went into failsafe mode on my first drive to work 🥹 There it is, day one of Range Rover ownership, breaking me in nice and early. With the tiptronic and low range not selecting, I am hoping I have a smaller but harder to find electrical issue, but will dig deeper over a few beers this weekend.
I figured this could be a nice replacement for the E39 to do roadtrip duties while opening up a lot of destination options like Sani pass etc. It does the open road bit just as well as the E39. I do not want another project, so the plan is to get the gearbox sorted and replace the rear shocks and possibly control arms and enjoy it as is.
Famous last words...
