That's awesome news! Have they given any explanation regarding the old engine's problems and so on? Is the new motor a simple replacement of the original engine or a more updated variant? Also since your motorplan is almost at the end, is there any warranty on the newly fitted engine?
Hope you get your car back soon! I'm sure you have been missing her! :=):
Ok here is the situation:
As I've mentioned in the first post, the car had/has a smoking problem and needed to be looked at. first visit to Auto Atlantic for this problem resulted in the PCV being replaced. This, unfortunately, did not solve the problem.
On my return visit, they had a look at it, did some tests and then told me two days later to come fetch the car - there's nothing wrong with it! Needless to say, I smelled a rat!
I then looked at the jobcard, and then realised that they did a compression and cylinder leakage tests. Both of which the poor engine failed. Cylinder 5 clocked out at 11.5Bar while the rest was at 14.5Bar. Cylinders 5 and 6 were leaking at a rate of 25 and 23% respectively.
Question: is this normal? According to Gareth (whoever you are), it is.
According to BMW's training material on engine troubleshooting, no BMW can have >10% compression difference, and a >8% leakage rate.
So I took it in again Thursday 11 August 2011 and now I sit without a car.
