Anyhoo

Today the Mini is in for the brakes... How do I describe the issue... Hmmm...

They dont work. :thinker:

You have to pump them to gt pressure and they pull all over the place.

Sent the car to APS in Stikland. Just got a call... Car needs new right rear brake cylinder. Its leaking and needs to be replaced as well as contaminated fluid and bleeding as the brake fluid has leaked out.

R500 that I dont have later. :mmm:

I love/hate this car.

Mike, spend that 500 bucks on tools instead, and do it yourself.

You will prob find that you could have fixed that leaking cylinder with a R40,00 seal kit...

I think I paid like R130 for all 4 caliper seals for the 540, and those were odd sizes, the mini should be a dime a dozen..

Take your love, and turn it into a passion :)

The new cylinder costs R130. The brake fluid costs R140 odd as I insist on decent fluid... The rest is labour. I have no clue how to bleed brakes or even replace a cylinder or even where to find one... At the same time... They did drop me at home and are collecting me and at the same time they have been fantastic with communication and advice.

I dont mind paying when its needed.. The only issue is that all my savings have gone into launching my company and that leaves me with a R2.50 bank balance and to be honest paying for this to be fixed was not budgeted for.

Life is a bitch sometimes but I will remain positive.

At least the mini will be sensible in parts, if that was a BMW, you would look at R1000's.

I think they quoted clutchy like 7k for a rear caliper for his E34, ok fine you cant compare, but R130 is

But if you are going to build up a classic like this, your going to need to build up some contacts.. but we are here to help, even if we are just spewing out crap :)

I understand and accept. This is a 28 year old car. Shit is going to happen.

I want this car to be immaculate... In the last week I have had people offer me twice what I paid for this car to begin with which is astonishing.

As of next week I want to start slowly pulling the car apart and making sure everything is perfect. The car doesnt need an oil change. But I want to do one so I know the best oil and additives are in there.

Its all just cash money I dont have. lol. Thankfully the car was bought cash so I dont have repayments to worry about.

I need to stop complaining. :)

Mike, be positive. I had to replace a stupid sensor in the ML for the transmission, lucky it was still on motorplan. R37k for some stupid thing the size of my hand :hammerhead:

His Mini are from the days before BMW having their finger in the pie.

If you have a 2002+ later Mini which is out of motorplan, there are independant specialists which you could take it to that would cost a lot less. Depends on which area you live.

Thanks Mike

This is why I didnt buy a new Mini even though I could afford it. The idea of no warranty and replacing parts at that cost are simply unholy...

Buy the old one and not stress... Har har. Ya right.

Missy... Where you from and what Mini? lol

Missy, unless its under motorplan, BMW is the last place you want to take your baby for a service.

Go take a look at the sponsors page, and you will find somebody in your area that will look after your baby just as well if not a great deal better then BMW at a quarter of the price.

WHy dont you post a new thread with some info and some pics of your baby ?

Welcome

Oh wonderful...

So they replace the cylinder and start bleeding the system.... They do a pressure test... A pipe blows...

So now they are replacing the pipes and cylinder and new brake fluid and bleeding...

I dont know what to do... Im screwed financially on this one... I could barely afford to have the cylinder etc replaced... I cant afford this now...

Sigh... The mechanic just tells me "we will make a plan".

I wish the launching of my company would go a bit quicker... Its been over a month now without pay.

This Mini better appreciate how much I am stressing right now.

:ttiuwp:

And mike, its called passion, its a bitch, but worth it :)

Think of it this way, imagine that pipe went at 120kph on the highway, then the extra couple of R's dont really matter, as you will be visiting the big man above

hey thanks for the warm welcome.
My baby's still completely standard nothing done to it yet, not even rims or exhaust.
I'm just worried about sending the car to an "unregistered" person and not having any guarantee!!!:thinker:

ok cool...........I have a bit of a problem with three lights that keep coming on, the one is the ABS, the other is an exclamation mark and I think another has something to do with the pressure of my tyres!!!!

what could all this be?
