At the end of the day it truly is one of a kind...

If I have an extra half a bar lying around I would buy it in a heartbeat because there simply isn't another one like it.

BMW did offer the owner R350k for the car which he refused.

From a investment standpoint, I don't think you could go wrong with this and once you put it in perspective, guys on the forum wouldn't mind paying R200k for a 325is in pristine condition and I'm sure that if they found one with this mileage and in this condition they wouldn't mind paying that kind of money :praise:

and in another 20 years, if the vehicle remains as it is, one can only imagine what it will be worth then :flyfun: Much better than the measly 2.5% I earn on a positive balance :roflol::roflol: and just abit better than the 6.8% that I may earn on investment and this is a much prettier option :inlove:

i would be afraid to rev it past 3000rpm :fencelook:

Why?

Do you honestly believe cast iron becomes brittle with age when its at a [mostly]constant temp all the time ie. unused?:biglol::roflol:

I suppose you still believe in Santa as well

If it has fresh liquids in it, there is no reason it wont take as much as all the other beaten up ones still around

I guess the seals that are usually made from plastic and rubber that usually go brittle from not being in use and not receiving adequate conditioning are made from cast iron too?

And I guess all the cars from 20 years ago with 500 000km on the clock now does not leak a single drop of oil because it was "frequently conditioned"?

Do you hear yourself??

Seals are not like hair or skin that rejuvenates itself. It can only deteriorate and the 3 most blamed causes are friction, heat cycles and age.

Guess what...... all three those things happen when you use it and only one of those things happen if you don't use it in case you didn't know

No - the point is that with an engine with low mileage, and high age, that is designed to be driven and not stored, the degradation on parts due to periods of spending time idle is a lot more prevalent than in a car that is used.

I think in a sealed unit not exposed to the elements the age is irrelevant seen as other factors such as temp in any extreme isn't present.
The only time this engine would incur wear is if standing for a long period of time, on start up there isn't any oil in the top end of the motor. Other than that, I don't see how any of the parts would degrade especially seen as it was a garage king and hide and seek champion for +-20years.

There is only 1 part on a car where this is true. - Tyres

The rest I dont agree.

Tell me how do bearings, valves, sleeves, rings, camlobes, synchros, clutches, seat bolsters, leather degrade when they are not used and standing in a closed garage? Assuming the car was not abandoned on the beach for 20 years

...what about other components, like the brake lines, seals, gaskets, rubbers, pipes...???
