The General's E92 335i

Hi guys.
So havent posted much, still need to get some decent pics loaded up of the 335i so i can show her off.

Havent done anything with her as ye. but yesterday i had her booked in at JSN to check software update, which they did.
My reasons:
1. Launch Control not working (found a thread online that Kish started about my vehicle at the time and that it not working even back then, so something is up)
http://www.bimmerboost.com/showthread.php?82176-E92-DCT-launch-control-not-working
2. Was getting an intermittant slight surge at low speeds in the lower gears when cruising at partial throttle.

the Technician took a drive with me, (he drove), tried every combination of the launch control, even phoned friends etc and still it didnt want to work. (Initially JSN told me that the pre-facelift 335i didnt come with LC. then after telling them mine is DCT, they were skeptical, but their technicians confirmed it should have.)
the Guy who drove my car told me it could be software related, especially the surge, as well as him pointing out that when i come to a stop, the rev counter goes to resting position, but then gives a slight blip of 300-400rpm then settles finally.
also said that the car has a slight pulsing when idling.

He said that this is all down to Software, and that i should book it in.

So needless to say, the Software didn't correct the LC. i haven't felt the slight surge, but i only just got the car back. (Jaime was my Service Consultant at JSN, and honestly didnt like his attitude, almost like he was doing me a favour.)
I was told by Carlo that the Reprogramming would be around R900, but when i collected, i was given an invoice of R1600 by Jaime, saying that the R900 estimate was diagnosis only, and not the actual job. i told them im not paying for that, as i was told a rate, and thats what i will pay, to which his immediate response was "Sure no problem".

Anyway, Jaime also said that they wanted to keep the car and run diagnostics and troubleshoot that the car is not boosting as it should (i know its not as i have wastegate rattle, and the wind noise when spooling), i said no its ok, as i know about it, and thats next times issue. as they wants 2k to look at it before doing anything on the motor. they said this is why the cars launch control doesnt work as the car needs to get full boost for LC??
I was given a rough estimate of R39 000 to replace turbos on my car (including the Turbo exchange, he even referenced @osiris car coming in for the Turbo replacement, and said that my rate is an out of Warranty rate so will be 20% more expensive.)

So, needless to say, i wont be doing much else at JSN, or a BMW dealer unless i really have to.
My next priority is Turbos, and getting the Rattle repaired, and making sure the boost is contained and running correctly. as the car feels smooth to me, and well powered, but according to JSN, the car is not boosting right, and that when it is, i will definately feel the difference and "the car will scare me" according to them :D

So heres to hoping.

i will be using this thread for all my cars updates and things going forward :) thanks for reading guys.

General, Shaheev wasn't much of a racer and when he couldn't get the lc to work he just ignored it and moved on..

Regarding full boost at launch, I wish that was the way it worked, it only boosts to like 2-3psi with lc activated.

Your experience with jsn is just shocking though... How the hell do they just change quoted amounts...

Agreed, im not much of a racer either, i can live without it. im just the Kind of guy that if the car has the function, i want it operational.
I wasnt implying that there was hidden faults on the car either, im just doing all the research i can into this. So hope thats not how it came across.

When the Service Guy said it builds up full boost for launch, i just looked at him, but said nothing, i know it needs little boost, and even with the Boost leak or whatever is the issue, LC should still activate with the procedure.
I do agree about the service experience, i dealt with Carlo the entire time leading up to the book in, and then i was dealing with Jaime, who didnt have as much enthusiasm as Carlo did. and i made it clear that i wasnt going to be paying that added cost. and i also told him i wont be using BMW to do my Turbos at their rate.

Shaun, are you posting my own advice from a recent other thread? :bravo:

lol, i will definately be looking at Gabby to assist with the Turbos. I spoke to Chris @ CCD, and he gave me a rough figure of about R8500 to have the rattle kit installed, and turbos sent to gabby, and the labour of remove and refit.

So will be using him again as i did on my Astra soon.

It's all good in the hood General...

I still think you should make a pass by Gert @ obdworx and let him give you clean bill of health.. If he was based in durban back then when I was trying to figure out the lc i am sure we would have had it sorted..

I HATE that Jamie idiot! I had the exact same crap with him.

Tells me I need to convert my car back to stock and says I need the stock intercooler and charge pipe which is fair enough, service guys are like don't worry we will sort this out.

Jamie then tells me after they are half way through fitting this stuff that its going to be part of my bill.....I say ok how much, He tells me R5500.00 :roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol:

I asked him how the hell does it take 5 hours to fit a stock charge pipe to a stock intercooler? He tells me no they need to drop the sub frame :roflol::roflol: I simply said look bud, it takes me less than an hour to do this stuff in my own garage and without a lift, just using a single jack so don't bull shit me. So they dropped the price by 2.5k

But yea he does act like he is doing you a favor.

LOL @ 39k for a turbo swap though. These guys are nuts with the prices.

I know right, like WTF. his whole attitude just spoilt the JSN experience for me, so needless to say, wont be going there again.

Do yourself a favor and take your car to John@leoHause

Contacted John now, and will be booking in next week Thursday or Friday morning, just in time to use the last of the Oil Special :D haha. but will be cool.

Gabby did the hybrid turbo on my S3, top notch work.

Is that 8500 including everything?

Wow this is shocking but im not surprised.
My car is still on MP and i got the same bad attitude from Aubrey at JSN.
Almost like he was doing me a favour.

This the is the reason i am looking to take my car to Sandton Auto or Leo Hasse. Only thing is PTA is far out for me and they dont do these services on Saturdays and they are not doing MP work from after next Friday.

This is not to even mention the issues i had when taking my car previously for services at JSN.

Hi guys, so another update, did the Carbon Clean woith Marchand, and enjoyed speaking to him, and gaining some insight on things i didnt know about and that i am still learning.

Discovered my Charge pipe was not tightened down at the intercooler end, which gave me an EML light friday night, so that was tightened.

here is the pics as already shown

still enjoying the car as is, and will do additional modifications comes the new year.
Im still getting a blowing noise of air, and believe a boost leak is still around, so need to find it, else it is that my turbos are in bad shape.

i will found out in due time.

Car feels really good after the clean. at the moment im on 102500km for an '09 model.
I also hope find my boost leak.
Going to look at the following:
- Boost Solenoids
- Vacuum Lines refresh
- Secondary Cat delete.

Good to hear man, I'm also in need of a clean but will look at it by December hopefully. How much kms ago was the last clean as I only saw in your other tread it was 4 years ago? I know I'm going to be shocked to see mine because I don't think it's ever been done yet

I not sure what the KM reading was on the last clean, only saw the dates on which it was done, no mileage indication. so cant be so sure.
The clean will make a good difference for sure.
