I like the build story....lovely capturing your progress.

I also bought the UV fix but it did not work or last long on big jobs. Like my tekkie that had a loose sole.

Know what you mean, it works well for smaller jobs that dont take alot of strain or flex, the vent tab was perfect,
I like that its sandable, so can always neaten up whne working with it.

Very cool dude. It's these little things in our cars that can make the car look tatty and well used or neat and pristine condition.

Nice work, my tab actually has the same issue, I never looked at it yet but also need to fix it, how did you remove the vent if I may ask?

If its the drivers side vent, then its a case of just grabbing the sides, and pulling it forward, may be a bit tight as it has large metal pins that push in to place.
Once thats out, its a series of clips, you will need a very small Precision type flat screwdriver, or, best would be those Trim Removal tools, the plastic ones, but i cant stress this enough, be careful, the clips can break VERY easily if you not careful. just take your time.

Thanks  , it's the driver side yes. I will give it a try when I get the trim removal tools.

nah.

Good morning Everyone.
Finally the update ive been waiting to provide since i got the car.

2 Months ago, i bought myself the Wastegate repair Kit to fix the Wastegate rattle ive been having on my car, i knew the only man to go to for this was Afzil AKA @ByeByeM3 after reading the reviews and the great word of mouth promoting of his work.
So last week Thursday the Car was dropped off early, and Afzil started his work.

the Turbos were stripped in that day, and the following was sent to me of what was found.
Rubber Grommet had been sucked into the one turbo and was subsequently eaten up and destroyed
img-20180608-wa0000_7102391235.jpg

First Turbo that ate the Rubber Grommet was showing some signs of blade wear

Next turbo
img-20180608-wa0001_4463422833.jpg

Downpipe gasket had blown and was not in great condition, so this was replaced
img-20180608-wa0003_2282090242.jpg

Afzil was excellent and always either called me, messaged and sent photos throughout the entire process, and provided advice and listened to my questions, of which there were many.
He received the Turbos back, and all had been refurbed and balanced, and he had fitted the Anti Rattle kit with new flappers.

img-20180612-wa0011_8966591297.jpg

New Vacuum lines were replaced all round, as the old ones were stuffed, and broken (the new ones i had replaced with osiris were also removed to make them fresh and all the same.
img-20180613-wa0002_5257144109.jpg

Afzil had also found that the top radiator pipe nipple was broken, and he had bought a new replacement pipe for me.

New Pipe fitted
img-20180613-wa0007_7194185117.jpg

Afzil also honored my request to have the stock OEM Downpipes gutted, and proceeded to knock out the Cats for me.

Here is the final pic of everything fitted.

Verdict:
The drive is noticeably smoother, and the additional lag i was getting on the throttle pedal is miles better, and the turbo lag is relatively gone also. the car reacts to throttle input incredibly faster.
I can actually hear the Turbos spooling, and its such a refreshing sound to hear, and the best part of it all, my Forge DV's actually have a distinct WOOSH when i let off the throttle even a little. and when in boost, its alot louder dump. puts a smile on my face everytime now.

the crowning glory however, is my car does not rattle, not even a hint of it. ive driven in confined spaces with windows open to confirm this and make sure, and its 150% corrected.
The car really just wants to go, and i cant be happier with the decision made.
I will be looking at refitting my JB4 again soon, and leave the car as is for a while and just enjoy her.

Thanks for reading guys :D

@General.Massacre, did you ever manage to get the LC to work?

No never bud,
Ive tried everything,
New software at BMW JSN was updated to my ECU (full vehicle ECU updates)
Ive checked all possible sequences for the buttons and accelarator.

I was thinking my Kickdown button was dead, thats all i could think of, as even without kickdown button, if i floor my car, the gears still drop depending how hard i press accelerator (i Have MHD tune with my JB4).

Im seriously at a loss, so i have no idea man

Did the software updates include the TCU? I read somewhere that the software that came out on the first DCT boxes might not have had the launch control so a software update is required. I found this thread on updating the TCU software but could never get the BMW tools to work on my laptop.

I also have a pre-lci n54 with DCT and have never been able to get LC to activate.

Hi guys. So huge lack of updates on my part. But nothing has really happened.

I was struggling with massive power loss issues a while back. And managed to get @Osiris to test drive my car to make sure I wasn't just getting it all in my head. And sure enough he confirmed that my car felt like it was holding back. And really struggling. So after some intensive research, I came across this thread
https://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26639

In summary. It was regarding the plausibility of the stock secondary cats getting blocked. And draining the car of power.

So. I made the decision to go to SupaQuick (I know, there are loads of more reputable exhaust shops around, but for testing purposes I just went to them as they were close by.)
Once the car was up, they removed the cats. And this is what the result was.
Right side Cat. This is ok-ish. As the honeycomb mesh shows direct line of sight.
20181222_101626_5076417038.jpg

Left side Cat. Totally blocked. No light at all going through.
20181222_102457_882360823.jpg

So the Secondary cats were straight piped. Job was decent. Albeit I'll be looking at a full system in the future. This will do for now.

The result was impressive. I had my boost back. and car was responsive again. However I had a raspy exhaust tone on Cold start.
I started driving WOT to test and noted that my car in Map 5 was seeing 21psi when the JB4 was only requesting 15psi.
Then the inevitable happened. On a WOT test the boost spike at 22psi and off went my Charge pipe from the throttle body.
Now, to my detriment I removed the upgraded aluminum charge pipe and forge DVs for testing boost leaks initially with afzil. And the car remained this way, well, till now.
I managed to limp the car to an underground parking lot. This is when I noticed the charge pipe came off. So with some tools I managed to get it back on. Plugged in the TMAP again. and drive home with my tail between my legs.

The next day I stripped the old charge pipe (didnt break or crack to my surprise but I noticed that the Oring was missing.
So I called up Osiris and he offered to bring some extra o rings he had.
While waiting for him I took the chance to inspect the vacuum canisters. Which were perfect.
The only Vacuum lines that weren't replaced were from the Intake Manifold to the DV's so I had this done very carefully with the spare Vac line that Afzil gave me.
Nick arrived and we went about replacing the Charge Pipe. All went back perfectly. I'm currently using the Stock DV for now till I can properly service my Forge units.

We went for a test drive and wala. Boost on target with every pull.
Seeing as I have a Back End Flash with my JB4. The boost is slightly higher than standalone JB4.
So Map 5 I'm requesting just over 15psi. And I'm reaching that. Slightly higher. But nothing crazy. Maybe 0.5psi above target.
screenshot_20181224-170019_jb4 mobile_4569246890.jpg

Map 2 got me reaching 19psi max on a target of just over 17psi.
screenshot_20181224-170107_jb4 mobile_8311227974.jpg

I do not have the fuel yet for daily driving on Map 2 as my timing is not great on that map. So I am staying on Map 5 and enjoying the car again.

Car is really feeling good. And the raspy exhaust note has settled very well and the car actually sound so good. Will try get a sound or video clip of it when I can.

Thanks guys

Glad I could help man and the car is pulling brilliantly again compared to a few weeks back when it felt like gremlins stole your turbos in the middle of the night!

I reckon we get her on a dyno to see what she is doing.

That's a good idea. I'd like to do that.
Hopefully before and hen after intercooler.
