As most of you know, I was on the hunt for an X3 for my wife. We finally managed to find one that she had liked but was over our initial budget but was very well cared for and looked pretty much new inside.
Thanks everyone for answering my questions in this thread https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=89399
We found the vehicle in Pinetown and forum members Shayne and Donnie assisted me in checking out history of the vehicle and fair price for the vehicle. Thank you gentlemen.
I sent my dad to go and inspect and test drive the vehicle. His feedback was, “go for it”! This was in November, we signed the deal. We flew up to Durban for the December break and decided we are driving the car back to CT over 3 days.
It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles but it had most of the things my wife wanted. 20d, Front and rear PDC, Bluetooth connectivity for calls and media, heated seats (bonus), tan leather (bonus), smallest wheels and it was mineral white.
The vehicle is currently sitting at 110k km after we had driven it from Durban to Cape Town via the garden route. I am not a fan of autos or diesels generally, but this vehicle was brilliant on the long road, comfortable and plenty of torque to pull a vehicle full of occupants and a trailer. This engine and gearbox combo isn’t for performance, but for it’s intended purpose it works so well.
This wasn’t an economy run (We kept the speed at 129kph GPS for most of the route and even more on deserted stretches) but the vehicle still returned reasonable figures of 9.5l/100km. All things considered I was impressed. With no load driving around town, we are getting 7-8l/100km.
This X3 has the B47 motor and I would like to know if there is anything I should consider doing as preventative maintenance?
My plan is to have the DPF removed and removal of the EGR cycle via software.
