The 130i thread

I thought I'd start a thread for all the 1er drivers out there who have the 130i.

Let's see who all has one, what mods you've done, what you enjoy / hate about the car etc....

I enjoy the practicality of the hatch, combined with the superb 6cyl motor.

Irritations:
> My amp is on the blink
> Not much rear legroom

I’ve been enjoying mine a lot. Miss it though, havnt been able to drive her since Oct. STILL waiting on the insurance to pay out

I’ve done the following:

1) Carbon Diffuser, carbon mirror covers, carbon splits.
2) Lamin-x film on taillights,
3) Sprayed the original rims to anodized
4) Rockford sound system (sub, amp, cap and processor) added to the Logic 7 factory sound
5) BMW Performance steering wheel and Performance short-shift gear lever
6) K&N air filter

At least, I can do engine mods when I get her repaired, cos the motorplan is cancelled. First things gonna do is exhaust and software.

Yeah, I had an accident on the track. Been on the track with her for almost 3 years. The whole left side is stuffed, luckily its only body damage. The mechanical is 99% perfect.

what happend to carbon130 did he make it a track car?

I’m still deciding what to do with her, once the insurance decide to pay out. Either of the following:
1) Repair her back to normal like she was, but do a colour change (the limited edition blue that’s on the X5M and M3)
2) Turn it into a track car, or
3) Transplant everything (engine, interior, sound) into an E30 body

I drove a 130i a while ago, and I must say, the engine works very well in that size car, compared to anything bigger. You can feel the low down torque and the tractability is amazing.

Given that everyone raves about the 135i, I predict that in a few years the "humble" 130i will become a bargain performance buy - coupled with a bulletproof motor - just do a chip & exhaust and that should give some nice gains too :ka-boom:.

if its just cosmetic spend all the money on performance mods and turn it into a drift slag... if the body gets trashed then put the engine in an e30

The cheapest quote to repair is R100k with second hand parts, luckily this shape (face lift) is less than 4 years old.

The most expensive is via BMW Repair Centre at R220k, which is ridiculous. Their PC system quotes EVERY part thats in the "damaged" area. Most of the parts dont need replacing like the door panel, window winder switch, passenger seat, roof lining, dashboard, etc.

The only internal damage is the air vent on the dashboard, which just popped out, can be clipped back in

i would just strip it completely sell the interior and use the money on fixing the body panels and mods...

Carbon 130i...sorry to hear about the car.

What i love most about the car...the sound, never get tired of hearing her scream.

R100k to repair, 50% of the cost to replace her...was thinking of getting a donor 130i and doing a swop with my 318ti...wouldn't that be a suprise on the roads

We have a 130i E87 5 door with M sports pack and paddle shift gearbox. Brilliant little car that handles well and goes very well.
Only problem is space if you have family as the rear room is a bit tight and boot not that big.
But an awesoem little car and power to weight is really nice.
Might be sellin gher soon thought omake way for a bigger car

I wonder why they never made an e82 130i coupe NA.
I like the coupe, but not the FI 3.0 of the 135 and the state of tune on the 3.0 125i is just pathetic.

Agreed 130i in the coupe form would have been awesome. (that is if you got it with a temperature guage and a dipstick)
