Switching from 20's to 18's

Hi all,

I’m in Boksburg and looking to switch my BMW X5 E70 from staggered 20" wheels (narrow front / wide rear) to 18" wheels for a softer ride on gravel and dirt roads.

I also need to buy OEM 18" rims (2010 BMW X5 E70) and will be selling my current 20" set.

Any recommendations for rims or local shops around Boksburg/JHB that can help with the swap?

Thanks!

I always said if i had to buy my Father in always X5 that has the staggered 20's then i would do what you are doing, and go to 18's for a safer profile and of course cheaper tires too.

You can whatapp the or call the usual spares shops:

Beeline spares
bmparts Edenvale
Md Motorhouse
Bavarian breakers

Facebook market place - but very high chance you will have to check all 4 rims after purchasing.

Some other things to consider at the same time:

- Switching from run flat to normal tyres (assuming you have a proper spare)
- Switching to a brand/model of tyre that is more biased to off-road use - depending on brand, some offer a bit more sidewall flex translating into a softer ride

Depending on how much off road driving you do, also consider getting a decent tyre pump and deflating your tyres on very rough terrain (and inflating again when you need to)

Thanks for the advice and recommendations! I currently have a proper spare and would want one in the 18" configuration as well. Tyres seem to be easier to find so I'll cross that bridge when I get there, just hoping to find the wheels before the current tyres are worn out.
