What is your purpose in disabling them and not removing them?

The biggest issue with swirl flaps was that it would get brittle, break and get sucked in...so removing them would be your priority I would say. I stand to be corrected.

When the engine idles it revs up and down as if it is "hunting" and I can see flaps motor moving the flaps open and closing . would like to try without the flaps moving to see if problem goes. Hope I have explained this correctly.

Ah ok I got you, so you want to disable them so they stay closed or opened and see if it solves the hunting issue? ok cool but once yuou get passed this, consider the removal. Others on here can advice even more to this removal etc.

Good luck bud!

What car are we talking about? the fact that you can see the actuator moving the flaps, why don't you just disable the actuator by unplugging it either by unplugging the electrical connector or the vacuum pipe? This will disable the flaps. If the flaps still open and close, just try to lock the actuator arm so the flaps stay closed or open. Just a suggestion!

2008 BMW X3 N47 E83 2000D Was worried just unplugging swirl flaps, but will try and see what happens.

I have a 2013 F10 520d with the N47N motor and i very recently bought a Victor Rheinz inlet manifold gasket that had the swirl flap delete already done so that the shaft holes were already closed up. Was about R700 bucks. Not sure if the N47 motor has the same system but on mine the swirl flaps are part of the gasket. Got the part from Masterparts here in Brackenfell
